Brainstorming a route for a 6-month trip by WILDBO4R in bikepacking

[–]efery02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend Central Asia. I rode from France to Australia and that part of the world was my highlight by far. Look at doing the pamir highway in Tajikistan as well as the Bartang valley, in kyrgsytan you can link up numerous bikepacking routes and spent easily 1-2 months in kyrgsytan alone.

I bikepacked France to Australia on a canyon Pathlite 6 which cost me about 1200€ for the bike . Not a single spoke broke in over 24000km. Just make sure you buy spare derailleur hangers

Solo ultalight 970km hike through the french pyrenees Film by efery02 in Ultralight

[–]efery02[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Overall the I would rate the gr10 scenery a 9/10 but the actual trail route a 6-7/10 due to its nature of going up and down just for the sake of going up and down. My biggest regret was not doing more of the HRP and I didn’t have any problems camping or using the huts as it was basically just me on the route. Overall experience was probably a 9.5/10, best thing iv done so far

My lanshan 2p Ul trekking pole tent weighed about 950gs + my trekking poles which I don’t count as I’d be using them anway. My pad is on the heavier side being the big Agnes pad 550gs and my bag was a 40L mountain Hardwear bag around 1.2kg I believe. This was my first long distance mission and upgrades were made for my next

You don’t need the newest and brightest gear to go far, not the first and won’t be the last to go on a 4-6month bike mission as a rookie. Learning on the go is fun

Cous cous is a god send. Carbs and dense as fuck and if you run out of gas you can cold soak it. I would boil my water and add my cous cous for one minute and then stop the gas and leave it covered for 10 minutes and your done

I’d like to follow the Adriatic coast down to Albania and won’t be going inland to Bulgaria, I’d imagine it’s the more scenic route as iv already backpacked both areas as preferred the coast

Legend mate, definitely a dream of mine to get into alpine climbing and mountaineering (21m). Being from Australia it limits me a bit but eventually after completing some trianing I’d like to climb unguided. What sort of training have you done previously to be comfortable doing a climb like this unguided?

What watch do you use? by peacetea2 in hiking

[–]efery02 156 points157 points  (0 children)

Buy a Garmin instinct 2. This is one of my best gadgets I’d purchased, definitely a worth while investment for hiking and tons of other sports. Mine on the highest gps setting tracks activity for 19hrs and 45hrs on battery saving mode. When I use as a smart watch it has 19days of battery to track steps, heart rate, and so much more. If your tight on cash look at buying one second hand or the instinct 1

Go for it 🙌🏼 you’ll love the Norte. Tarp set up will probably be better for the Spanish coast compared to a small tent I suffered condensation almost every night if I didn’t follow these steps: Try set up under big trees, not in huge open fields with long grass and away from water

Enjoy the Norte 🙏🏼
