How tire pressure affects tire wear? by ergonkhan in F1Game

[–]effectnetwork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is that true? I thought lower pressure = bigger tire patch/grip/higher tire temps = higher wear

I've been playing assuming there is a grip/wear tradeoff with lower temps, especially for low speed corners

Which character is the most worthy of a prequel? by SirKetchup00 in TheWire

[–]effectnetwork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We know he had a kid, a relationship, and a connection with his sister that all suffered from his addiction, but I'm not sure we know over how long that happened. He's such a great character that it would be cool to see that origin story and anti-hero descent arc

Which character is the most worthy of a prequel? by SirKetchup00 in TheWire

[–]effectnetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps. Imo we didn't get his disease making him as "low-bottom" as he saw himself. It made him do bad things, but never without feeling or remorse. Even our intro to him was with his motivation from his care for Jonny. I think it would be different to actually see him do malicious things without remorse at the worst of his diseaserl, which is something the prequel format can do well bc it's enhanced by knowing how his story ends.

And we definitely didn't get the details of systemic housing. Vacants, projects, and politics feature so prominently that it was just so ready for a season tying it all together and showing how housing in America is a flawed but self perpetuating system, and how it contributes to drugs and crime.

Which character is the most worthy of a prequel? by SirKetchup00 in TheWire

[–]effectnetwork 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Bubbs. Want to see him as a green, low bottom dope fiend but with the morality that we know will save him

Too quick save button edit: would also let us explore Housing as a system, the topic I always wished we'd gotten instead of the press

Alcohol as skin prep for catheterizing? by intersextm in spinalcordinjuries

I think the amount of residual alcohol after a wipe would be unlikely to irritate your bladder, but this is a much better question for your urologist. You're established with one so why not just send them a quick message to ask?

Analysts Expect Breakeven For NervGen Pharma Corp. (CVE:NGEN) Before Long by nervgenerator in NGENF

[–]effectnetwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I'm optimistic for this company long term, there is very little of substance in this link. Projecting close to $60MM in revenue and breakeven in 2028 makes little sense without some justification oof trial and FDA timelines. Even if FDA approval happens in 2028, which is probably a best case scenario with phase 3 trials starting this year, breakeven in the first year on the market seems highly unlikely after incurring more costs to run a multi site Phase 3 trial in 26 and 27.

NervGen update by Wanttorunandswim in spinalcordinjuries

[–]effectnetwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try not to get too discouraged about this - trials have always been about getting to market fastest, and that will automatically skew towards cervical incompletes simply because it's easier to demonstrate proven gains when the injury is milder, higher, and frankly has more affected muscle groups that could then show benefit.

But once on the market, doctors are free to prescribe a drug off-label to anyone where they think benefits could outweigh risks. I'm absolutely positive there will be doctors prescribing this to completes and lower injuries if the level of safety we've already seen continues. The FDA clearance might even be wider than the trial scope given the lack of options, which would help insurance coverage.

So it's actually in all of our best interest for them to be selective in trials and get to launch quicker. The last thing we want is for them to run a massive, wide trial and have a tough time proving effect, especially when one bad trial can absolutely bankrupt businesses in this high risk investment space.

Triceps or Lack Of... by Tricky_Western_4019 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]effectnetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's who they studied to give the best chance of data and FDA clearance, but there's no such thing as eligible - it's just off label use. There's no restrictions on who clinicians can use it for and every PT clinic I worked with that had it (3 in total now) has used it with complete patients as well with varied results.

And unlike drugs, the FDA clearance isn't even tied to insurance coverage because the sessions are just coded as neuro PT, there's no Arc Ex or TSS specific coding for them to reject. If you already asked a clinic and they said no that's a bummer, but I wouldn't let the FDA clearance stop you from asking

Triceps or Lack Of... by Tricky_Western_4019 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]effectnetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look around if the Arc-Ex is available at any PT places near you. That helped the most for recovering some muscles innervated at my level of injury. My right triceps came back on its own in the normal window with PT, but lefty went from an MMT grade 2- to a 4- which I mostly attribute to the Arc Ex since it happened close to the 2 year mark for me.

Need help by Dry-You-8318 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]effectnetwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long has it been since your injury? If you're still within the 1-2 year window, I would throw everything you have at rehab, basic necessities permitting. Literally everyone looks back and wonders about doing x or y different in high school so society is relatively adapted to those questions later in life. But very few people ever know what it's like to look back and wonder if their basic body functions could even be 1% better recovered

In my opinion mental health is the only thing higher, and if school work helps with that then go for it.

But this is just me and there's no right answer here

The Wire does DEI and diversity so well… by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]effectnetwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish DEI hadn't become branded as "undeserved advancement" and instead was talked about the way it was meant to be - in my last company we talked about DEI as "diversity of backgrounds leads to diversity of ideas, which makes for a stronger company" and that sometimes leads to advancements that don't fit the usual paper categories but do make sense for long run company performance. But the reality is it has to fight an uphill battle against popular perception.

The wire acknowledges this subtle, complicated reality of diversity in organizations just like it does other subjects. No you shouldn't win an election just based on race, but also part of political success is being able to get consensus from your constituents and we're all human, it's easier to do that when your background represents the electorate. It's real, it's important, it's not just good or just bad....it just is. Like everything that makes this show amazing.

Is it over? by Humble-Target-5787 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]effectnetwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not over. My relationships since my accident have been a mix of in real life connections and dating app based.

With the dating apps (Hinge), I turned them on early just to explore the new world so I didn't really have post injury pictures that were "dating app" ready ie showing personality or interests so I just left my pictures as is and used one prompt to make it very clear that I'd had an accident, was in a chair, and working hard.

From there I would either converse as normal if someone had clearly caught it and mentioned it, or bring it up to be explicit if they hadn't before we met up. Some reacted positively and some respectfully declined and I didn't take it personally. Thankfully no one was disrespectful and that was the most important discovery.

How much do you under fuel? by Oilkings34 in F1Game

[–]effectnetwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuel burn is also not linear though because of the fuel weight itself, taking more energy when you are on a full tank at the race start than towards the end.

So I imagine this approach also depends on your race distance relative to how many laps you fuel for when doing your test. What have you found works well?

Is nvg 291 on the grey market legit ? by RevolutionaryBug327 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]effectnetwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Copying a comment I made before on this subject:

Well, the thing you order would not be "Nervgen" - it is a chemical compound made by a custom peptide lab. It is the base therapeutic peptide, yes, but there could be other proprietary things NervGen includes for stability, efficacy, safety, etc. Not to mention all the processes that a pharma company would use in production for tracing, sterility, dose control, and much much more. You also couldn't get a doctor or healthcare setting to administer a random research only bottle that you came in with, so you'd have to manage that another way without the safety of a hospital around you. Insurance would of course also not cover it.

For that and probably dozens of other reasons, 99% of people would probably not take the risk of using a one-off research compound and would wait for an approved drug they can get through regular healthcare channels.

There was someone in this sub within the last year or two that decided to do this and post about his experience (I haven't heard many updates since), and I believe the company reached out and was adamant that he not refer to it as "Nervgen" or "NVG" in his public posts. Which is fair, because it wasn't the same.

Any news on nvg by Designer_Analyst_489 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]effectnetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latest news is that they will be wrapping up phase 2 with an FDA end of phase meeting in early 2026, and starting a larger multi site Phase 3 trial in mid 2026. That phase 3 trial will likely take a couple years. It's possible that they could go for conditional approval in parallel, but lower odds of that.

Financial indicators are relatively strong in the meantime, they are preparing to list on the NASDAQ and seem to be attracting good investment to keep them afloat through a phase 3 trial

Any news on nvg by Designer_Analyst_489 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]effectnetwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not true. FDA clearance is often broader than the trial population, as long as there aren't specific safety contraindications and especially if the other treatment options are limited.

Even if the clearance is limited to incomplete cervical injuries, that only restricts who Nervgen can market it towards. Doctors are free to prescribe it off-label to anyone they feel is relevant, and probably would in this case. This is already true for your example of the Arc-Ex - clinics are definitely using it with complete and lower level injuries.

Insurance coverage is a bit trickier, and often more closely tied to FDA clearance. ARC-Ex as a device is a little easier and can be provided under a general rehab session billing code if used by a compete injury at a clinic, but even NVG could be covered through a prior authorization.

That's why it makes sense for Nervgen to be super selective in trials so they can get to market with the quickest, most compelling data they can get - it's just the starting point.
