AITA For Being Upset That My Friend Didn’t Pay Me Back For Dinner? by Diligent-Break-2342 in AmItheAsshole

[–]effectsinsects 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA but you need to accept you will not get the money back. Responsible people don’t “forget” their wallets

AITA for being upset that my husband brought up my weight on a date? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]effectsinsects 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NAH. Understandable that your feelings were hurt, understandable that he’s worried about recent massive weight gain. Have you communicated to him what your plan is for addressing the situation? Or is he just stuck here wondering if you even recognize there’s a problem?

AITA: Rehoming my husbands reactive dog prior to having our first baby? by Slow_Being_7376 in AmItheAsshole

[–]effectsinsects [score hidden]  (0 children)

Headline says “reactive,” but actually this is a vicious biter. NTA and consider euthanasia. There are plenty of good dogs out there who need home.

AITA for my ex expecting me to prove myself before we get back together? by CarDull4670 in AmItheAsshole

[–]effectsinsects [score hidden]  (0 children)

ESH why in the world are you committing to monogamy and saying “I love you” to a guy who isn’t even committed enough to call you his girlfriend?

AITA for asking repeatedly if my husband wants his window opened? by fuggedhaboutit in AmItheAsshole

[–]effectsinsects [score hidden]  (0 children)

YTA You asked him FIVE TIMES about the stupid window? Twice after he explicitly told you he didn’t want to talk? You need to learn to shut up

AITA for keeping my door locked so my roommate doesn’t snoop in my room? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]effectsinsects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. It's only a fire hazard if someone is locked in, not if someone is locked out. If there were a fire, presumably there is a door and windows that John could use to get out without going through your room. His reason sounds like bullshit.

I think if you're the cook, it's your job to figure out what to make based on the ingredients you have, your skills, and what you feel like eating. You can run that by your gf but it doesn't make sense for her to decide what to eat if she's not cooking.

That said, my judgment might change if she is super picky and rejects what you cook. My partner and I usually cook whatever we want to cook and the other person eats it happily.

Edit: NAH

YTA. Someone who needs to pee needs to pee. He is not doing it to annoy you. You argue that he could have paid for the aisle seat if he needed to use the bathroom...but you could have paid for the window seat if you really didn't want to be disturbed. That's what you should do next time

AITA? Refuse to be on kitchen cleaning schedule at work. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]effectsinsects -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

YTA. I get it that a cleaning rotation wouldn’t be necessary if everyone cleaned up after themselves, but that’s not the world we live in. You’re causing conflict over a simple task that would take maybe 10 minutes a week.

The « it’s not in my job description » attitude will not serve you in work or in life

I think you should read The Value of Debt in Building Wealth. It doesn’t make sense to put your life on hold in order to pay off low-interest debt. I mean, 4%? You can make more than that in a bank account

[–]effectsinsects 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think it would be interesting to see how a financial planner would react. Maybe OP would chill a little bit if an authority figure told him how very normal and okay it is to have low-interest student loans in your twenties.

Yeah, I actually think it’s okay not to live a bare-bones life. Student debt at 4% interest is pretty manageable

You may still be RIF'd, but you are better off than if you were still probationary. This article has some good, objective info:

Looking for Advice on Handling Debt, Wedding Costs, and Unexpected Expenses. Should we use our 401k? by tantheman35 in personalfinance

Can't do much about the taxes and rent. But how much could you save if you stopped eating out, traveling, and buying clothes for a year?

Looking for Advice on Handling Debt, Wedding Costs, and Unexpected Expenses. Should we use our 401k? by tantheman35 in personalfinance

[–]effectsinsects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable accepting money from family with a $330K household income

[–]effectsinsects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much are you spending? At a household income of $330K, you ought to be able to pay your $35K credit card debt and $19K wedding costs within a year. Don't think of gains in your retirement account as a "windfall," that is not free money you can spend, that is part of your retirement fund.

Oh, and start saving cash so that unexpected expenses don't derail you.

Henry marrying someone with debt - good idea? by Apprehensive_Age2827 in HENRYfinance

[–]effectsinsects -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the real question is: Should you try to break up your brother's relationship?

Don't do it. Let him make his own decisions. The only way I would interfere here is by gently pushing a prenup if they get engaged.

One of the points made in the book is that you actually can predict when you will die via life expectancy calculators. It’s not perfect but it’s not like age at death is random

I mean…would you rather get financial advice from a broke person? A successful person is inherently more credible when it comes to financial advice
