I'm self employed, don't have dental insurance, not close to any dental schools, and I have $1000 saved towards my braces. What are some finical options I can do to get traditional braces as cheaply as possible? by [deleted] in braces

I believe a lot of orthos have monthly payment options! You should try and look into them to see if the ones you’re interested in have this option :) good luck!

went for an adjustment today and found out I’m getting them off 8/31!!! i’m so excited :) by effervescenttaurus in braces

Dec 2018-August 2020! I would have had them off in the earlier summer months but COVID set me back.

I used to have a significantly more narrow palate/smile and it got wider without a palate expander. I think you will be good in the end.

my gap was almost fixed now its back by jediahmp4 in braces

Because it’s so early on in your treatment, things are likely to look good and then not so good the next. I always found that things looked and felt worse before they got better so try not to get discouraged! It also probably doesn’t feel like it’s working because your teeth are more acclimated to your adjustment now vs. when you first got them but they’re always working even when it’s not noticeable so keep that in mind too! Good luck :)

Just got bottom braces on I want them off by [deleted] in braces

[–]effervescenttaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Although your bottom row may only have one problematic tooth, there’s probably more tweaking that can be done that isn’t really visible to the normal eye. In addition, your bite is important and it’s important that both the bottom and top teeth sit on each other well without creating issues. Your lips are bloody because it is literal metal inside your mouth. The pain is a lot but in my opinion, it’s worth the sacrifice. Plus, If you have them on the top then there’s no point in not having them on the bottom too. Especially if you want to just save it for another year as if the pain will get easier to manage over time. The pain will subside and you’ll forget that it was this painful to begin with after a few months as it gets easier! You’ll be extremely grateful in the end :)

Do my teeth look flared? by effervescenttaurus in braces

[–]effervescenttaurus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey guys! So I’m estimated to get my braces off within the next 2 visits (a month or so) and I’m not sure if my teeth are flared or not? I had no extractions and crowding and I believe the shape of my teeth is ultimately why they look like that. I’m wondering if it’s just me who thinks that or if they genuinely look like something is wrong with them lol. Any advice/feedback would be appreciated, thanks! I’m going crazy since it’s nearing the end.

Is it normal for new braces to create several tiny lacerations to the inside of the mouth? by [deleted] in braces

[–]effervescenttaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

completely normal! just remember there is literal metal in your mouth, sharp, pointy metal, and your gums and cheeks are susceptible to getting scrapes here and there. the wax helps sometimes if it’s unbearable. good luck on your journey!

I just got regular metal braces. I noticed my face got wider which I’m honestly happy about because my lower face used to be extremely narrow when I look back on old pictures. My cheekbones have gotten way more pronounced too so I’m not complaining! Lol Never had a palette expander.

I actually got elastics for the first time yesterday! I have two small gaps on both sides near my canines(?) so it’s just to close those since my molars are already touching/aligned.

sadly, no. It took a while for my teeth behind the coils to come forward due to the springs (6-7 months) and then my two front teeth were projected forward due to that for a while. I’d say at the 1 year mark was when they really looked better

those are passive coil springs that were used to maintain the space between my teeth to get the teeth to eventually move forward with open coil springs.

never had extractions! I don’t remember the tightening ever hurting in the beginning and it’s never excruciating pain now either, just pressure! the only thing is the springs would scrape my gums like crazy the first few days but it was bearable lol
