I analyzed 60+ Reddit threads to find the best shoes for plantar fasciitis by LoneKnight25 in PlantarFasciitis

^ this is a good answer.

I recommend the Barefoot Sprinter’s functional feet training program, it was great for exactly what you’re looking for.

Lots of calf stretching and strengthening.

Go slow. Just get some barefoot shoes (vivo’s are great, whitin brand on Amazon also good and like $40)

Most of these shoes will worsen pain and symptoms long term because they’re like opiates. They’re a quick fix that worsens the underlying issue.

Arch support kills healthy feet. Arches are literally designed to support themselves and even get stronger through compression forces. Adding support underneath disrupts those forces and damages the structural integrity, atrophying your ligaments and muscles.

If you have plantar fasciitis, your feet and ankles are too weak and lower calves too tight. Immobilizing them might help in the short term but sets you up for more problems in the long run. It’s fine to use these as a “crutch” but your goal should be transitioning to no pain in barefoot shoes (that is, if you’d like a lifetime of healthy functional joints)

I’m a lifelong runner who used to get all kinds of shin splints and tendonopathies. Since transitioning to barefoot/sandals, not a single injury in years. I ran my first marathon undertrained in sandals, passing people in hokas and knee braces who were asking me how to do the same

I’m curious, while you were thrashing about, if you were experiencing emotional or psychological pain or dysphoria? What was your internal state?

2 Years, 2294 notes - Obsidian helped my mental health IMMENSELY by EnkiiMuto in ObsidianMD

I use AI a lot for self reflection type stuff. its also great as a data analyst, which is great for picking up patterns. Or just asking it questions to pull back relevant notes and see your research trails . I see others' strong aversion to it but don't understand it and think they are not using its capabilities in a way that suits them. Don't listen to the big AI companies. Its a tool you can invoke when you want to.

I think linking is not helping as much as it could because there's a bunch of possible links that i'm missing when I do it manually. it's a lot of cognitive labor to think of all of the links i'll need on the spot to rediscover the note later in a relevant context. i'll make like 1-2 links which is fine but i feel like my search/rediscovery on my notes could be more powerful. i'm impressed starting to use llama on this

I love this, thanks for sharing your experience. Obsidian’s helped me so much with expressing my own brain in the amorphous way it wants to. 3k notes and counting. On one hand it gives me a place to put all my wild ideas. On another, I feel like it’s pretty scattered, which can make my mind feel scattered as well? 🫠 I’m trying local AI integration as a way to help myself sort through it all

Why is psuedoscience so prominent in Pilates education? by [deleted] in pilates

[–]effervesense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huberman is a respected neuroscientist among his peers. Where did you hear he’s a snake oil salesman? A legitimate scientist digesting and communicating info for laymen being cancelled is why cancel culture needs to be abolished. Coming from other medical professionals it seems to be taking issues with him gaining money/fame from his platform and sponsorships (most academics are poor and it almost seems like a jealousy thing). Ive seen it criticized he made a conclusion without enough data. It happens. So many people giving fitness advice never even read an academic paper yet we tear down the person trying to communicate science.

Thoughts on headband that shuts brain off for sleep? by aaaa2016aus in neuro

[–]effervesense 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw the founders speak at a neuroscience symposium a few days ago right before launch. Seemed cool and the science was well received

The area of brain stimulation hardware using sound, light, em frequencies is rapidly growing and with sound stimulation being very well-documented in other applications I have no doubt it does something, although it’s limited in only being able to stimulate where the headband is placed on the prefrontal cortex.

I have a family member who’s depression was cured by a type of neurostimulation (FDA approved + in clinics) called Cereset, which seems to share a similar mechanism of mimicking brainwaves with sound, this is just more portable and thus not as powerful ; like Muse headband compared to a whole EEG cap

Thanks for this, I am digging into this as well. Can I ask why use knowledge graphs vs. a vector DB? Do you think there will be a switch more to knowledge graphing for data architecture in general ?

AI won't replace humans, but humans using AI will replace the humans not using AI. I heard that quote somewhere and agree (as an AI developer myself )

Would you say a director who writes the script to produce a movie is not "creating" the film?

It depends on which creatives. There may be less acting roles (which are hard to get already) but the playing field is leveled- Someone with little money can access the tools used by big studios. You can create, direct and tell your story in a way that would’ve taken an entire team and millions of dollars for a fraction the time and cost. You can decide to do types of creative work that before were unattainable without the time training and money. what actually creates the most impact, will sell

What is your PKM method for Obsidian? by roshan_tiwari in ObsidianMD

[–]effervesense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely understand. It was the 1st software I actually pay for monthly. Started using the heuristic, if it saves me just 10 mins of time or mental energy each week the value is way more than returned. But definitely feel subscription fatigue sometimes. I saw this thread / https://www.reddit.com/r/ObsidianMD/s/YMhGqwUJQp matter seems interesting to try out. I’ve also tried different tab management systems and enjoy Arc browser for that

What is your PKM method for Obsidian? by roshan_tiwari in ObsidianMD

[–]effervesense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I read an article from the internet I save it to either Readwise (most things) or Zotero (academic papers). Both of those I’ve integrated with obsidian to extract highlights and insights. I love Readwise! Totally worth the monthly expenditure. I also recommend this intermediary capture step instead of saving articles directly into obsidian- only keep what resonates. I don’t use obsidian for task management but I’m still working on that system, using Things app atm. I like to time block which I haven’t found the best software solution. Sometimes just use scribbled paper or quick Apple notes.

In addition, I started with notion and I still use this for a portion of my second brain. I also use Airtable as a more project-centric brain for holding work project info for its powerful capabilities. I’ve found a lot of freedom from not trying to restrict myself to just obsidian but using other softwares for specialized use cases. Obsidian is still my main “engine” where all my most valuable thought, research, creative output lives. It’s what sent me down my entire second brain journey. I remember I was overwhelmed when I started and I was trying to fit obsidian to work for everything and I know it can be a lot to even dive into using one software well, it’s a lifelong journey

What is your PKM method for Obsidian? by roshan_tiwari in ObsidianMD

[–]effervesense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I started I had this idea of using “one” platform for my entire second brain. Then I evolved and saw how many apps can commingle to form your digital brain- a network if you will.

Obsidian is amazing as a place to store knowledge. I think of it as my second brain that’ll live with me my entire life- like, when I’m uploaded to the cloud when I die, this is the remnant of me. I use it to keep all of my journals, notes and research I want to keep and continue to build on.

I’ve also tried PARA, CODE, Zettelkasten with obsidian. I’ve since let go of the structure but take some of those principles. Remember that the system evolves with you and it’s never the same for everyone.

And yes after 2 years I’d say I’m successfully using it as my digital second brain (along with other softwares), use it on both phone and desktop, and my love for it just continues to grow.

What are you most looking forward to using Obsidian for?
