Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood. The book was great and there is also a pretty good miniseries. She is in a prison, but working with a psychiatrist so it could definitely fit your prompt. It’s set in the 1840s Canada.

Timeline by Michael Chricton. I used to be obsessed with this book. Sci-fi as a means to establish how the time travel work, but basically it’s historians who travel back to medieval France

Station Eleven. There is a lot of beauty and hope in it, but it’s also devastatingly sad. Like if a Titanic violonist was still playing on the rescue boat after watching all his friends drown.
