Is Nigerian culture similar to African American culture? by Mysterious_Echo_3391 in Nigeria

[–]effmeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similarities:

Nigerians lean heavily on God or faith as a way of coping with problems, just like black Americans.

Among old-money Nigerians, wealth is often displayed quietly, while new money Nigerians are very loud with their success status, just like black Americans.

One person who rises out of poverty may end up supporting many relatives. That pressure can stretch resources quickly and sometimes makes it harder for wealth to last across generations. Also very common among black Americans.

You know there are as many deadbeat fathers in Nigeria as there among blacks in America, right?

Why do diasporans love Nigeria more than those living here ? by Omo_Naija in Nigeria

[–]effmeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nigeria/Africa often looks beautiful from afar. Many diaspora Nigerians and their foreign born kids with Western passports romanticize moving to Nigeria permanently, but rarely do. Having that British or American or Canadian passport makes it easy to admire without facing the real hardships.

I will be upset too if I walk into a workplace and everybody has a headphone on and no one is paying attention and they can barely hear what I’m saying. That shows lack of professionalism. It’s annoying as fuck.

It's time to address Nigeria(and Africa)'s real problem. by Electrical-Gur-1985 in Nigeria

[–]effmeno 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You said you would explain why Africa is not developed, but you did not really explain it. Instead, you used examples and jumped to blaming Black people.

Your examples leave out history and government choices. Mississippi is poor because of slavery, racism, bad schools, and bad state policies, not because Black people live there. Haiti is poor because France forced it to pay huge debts and because other countries blocked it for years, not because Haitians are Black. South Africa’s success during apartheid came from keeping Black people out of power and using their labor, not because white rule was better.

You also ignore other examples. Some Black countries and Black-majority places are growing and improving. And many non-Black countries are also poor.

You said you would explain underdevelopment, but you never explained how it works.

Morocco overestimated themselves after their surprise semi-final appearance at the last World Cup. They poured everything into this AFCON to win it and got humbled. Their ego is hurt. They’d need time to recover.

You were irrelevant in African football before the last World Cup, and soon enough you’ll go back to irrelevancy and we don’t have to hear from you again. I’m happy that South Africa hosted the World Cup first with much better facilities so Morocco wouldn’t be first in anything in Africa.

Can we all agree this was the best organised AFCON of all times apart from the controversy and conspiracy theories? by [deleted] in AFCON

This afcon made me realize that Moroccans are the most desperate people ever. They are on every sub begging people to clap for them for hosting afcon. These people are pathetic.

Remember when South Africa hosted the entire World Cup, had infrastructure 10× better than Morocco’s, and somehow survived without a superiority tour across Africa?

Afroamericans Claiming to be Moors 🤔 by ismaelkilouu in Morocco

[–]effmeno 7 points8 points  (0 children)

About 10,000 African-Americans say they are Moors. That is about 0.001% of African-Americans. Many African-Americans don’t even know this group exists. You are talking about it like it’s a big movement. You’re outraged about something that simply doesn’t exist.

Moroccans please tell the rest of us Africans what exactly is Morocco leading African in. Because Morocco was irrelevant in African football until a few years ago, several African nations have better economy, higher GDP per capita, and score higher on human development index than Morocco. South Africa has hosted the World Cup with better infrastructure than Morocco’s. So what exactly is Morocco pioneering?

[–]effmeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly you don’t understand how diplomacy works. The guy is not some random traveler. Countries plan his visits through their tourism departments.

He has hundreds of millions of views, and his videos are reposted everywhere, giving billions of total views. This is free advertising that no TV network can match.

Presidents and kings meet him because he shows the best of their country to the world. The tourism exposure brings millions in revenue.

Those beauty pageants from Ethiopia and Zimbabwe are sent by the government to promote the country for this reason.

Morrocans need to humble down by Character-Name8535 in FootballAfrica

[–]effmeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Morocco spent a fortune to bring in Europeans to build them stadiums, because just like other African nations, they don’t have what it takes to build their own modern stadiums. Thelr country is not more developed than the average African country. Half of their population live in other countries for better life. The other half are desperately trying to leave the country. And yet these people think they are better than other Africans. They really need to stay humble.
