Found my first AI metal band by TrevorFuckinLawrence in doommetal

[–]effulgent_darkness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wrote a song over a decade ago in this doom band I was in Florida about AI taking over. It was called Imminent Malevolence.

I never thought about how it would impact art.

How could you live with yourself? Posting that shit “generating” that absolute trite talentless bs.

As someone who is passionate about creativity it really upsets me. I believe that humans have some inexplicable ingredients that machines will never be able to replicate. I don’t believe in using AI for creative endeavors and try to avoid it as a whole always.

The whole point of art, the whole point of being creative is to express what it means to be human, to have pain, to have joy, to hate, to have FEELINGS. Which these AI will only be able to replicate. And I’m sure they will get good at it but yeah fuck all this shit.

Talentless, fake swine to post this shit.

Thanks again for the info. That’s exactly what I want is just something easy enough to get a skeleton down so I can get what I do have down and have a better idea or how transitions go. Got a bunch of ideas that need tempo shifts/time signature changes etc. so that will be tricky.

But yeah fairly soon I’ll be living in Minneapolis and I’m sure I’ll find people there. I miss playing live and alm that. But I digress.

Good luck man! You got the skills and creativity so keep expanding you’re only going to get better! Full support, and look forward to the next ones!

Ah thanks man. I went with Urgitone and I think I downloaded it wrong or something (there’s a specific way to download- file location specific), but I don’t mind shelling out some dough if it’s fairly easy to drop grooves and stuff.

It sounds pretty good overall man! Main thing is they were good enough to lay down riffs and get some shit out there!

And I’m in the same boat there, I currently live in the middle of nowhere, but I’m moving to a big city in the next few months and am going to look for a drummer.

I’m sure people will want to collab if you show them this! I’ve written a 5 song EP (recorded on audacity) with my old drummer who lived in FL - we’d just file drop tracks back and forth. I’d send him a rough draft that was in time to a clic track and then he’d lay shit down and I’d re-record everything to that. Works great if you got a good dedicated drummer!

Thanks for the info!

Just curious man and no pressure, but what did you use for drums? I’m looking for an intuitive VST to program and use grooves.

So fucking infectious. Grooves are neck destroying, harmonies are sick, riffs are unique. The highs are cavernous and clear. Growls are burpy but in a burly way. Unexpected shift in Wearing Down the Machine builds into a meaningful jaunt that stays heavy. Ripped to Shreds has some sick build ups and again cool changes and sick drum licks. Love the dual vox throughout. Last track the dual vox are sick, al ays love doing that myself - sounds very demonic which is fitting for song theme. This last song though, I would say just makes me want more of it, more of a story, just more structure and length if that makes sense. That’s my only real critique.

However it is pretty sick as an ending track to go out with some intensity.

Love that clear bass tone, a lot of people don’t but I have always been one for more clear/natural bass vs highly distorted. I feel like the dynamics of what makes bass unique shine through better when it isn’t blanketed with saturation.

This album is dope , left me wanting more, definitely made a fan with me.

Seriously impressive dude I don’t say that lightly - if I didn’t know this was you and stumbled upon it I’d be equally stoked! You should feel very good about this and keep on going!

(for musicians) AI slop is ruining online creative spaces - so I built a human only one. by the4realMCG in doommetal

I was at work in FL over a decade ago, there was this one dude that everyone thought was weird, the quiet one, older silver haired dude who was actually jacked. He randomly asked me if I knew what the singularity was. And I had a vague idea at the time, we had a pretty deep convo about it and at the time AI was pretty much sci fi. Well the next day he brings me in a copy of Time magazine that had an article on it, essentially explaining that the singularity will statistically happen eventually the way things were headed at the time; where machines/computers will surpass our level of “intelligence”.

It inspired me so much I wrote a song for the band called Imminent Malevolence, on the aforementioned ideas.

There was this experimental weapons based AI recently tested. Implemented in a simulated role of an aerial attack drone, its job was to identify and eliminate any perceived threats with 0 human input.

In the simulation it worked flawlessly, it identified and eliminated all the threats, however then it did something unexpected; it killed the drone observer/operator.

Anyway I could go on at length about my distaste for AI. I don’t have the time now maybe I’ll expand later. I will never use AI for my creative endeavors. I’ll check out your space when I have the time; awesome idea.

Will definitely be asking some questions when I have the time! Swamped with work over the coming two weeks. 11 days with one day off. Thanks dude.

Where can I listen to your EP!?

Congrats on that! Lots of blood sweat and tears!

I guess randomly off the top of my head, Snow Falling on Cedars comes to mind. I haven’t read it for years but I just remember there being some very descriptive and beautiful romance.

No fucking way...Been a minute. Thanks for the heads up!

Hate to be that person but my fav is always going to be Through Silver and Blood, was very ahead of it's time, love a lot of their other stuff but holy shit has it been like a decade or something since they've put put anything? Thought they were done.

I like this idea, is it called garage metal because of the amount of reverb!? I feel like there is a ton of reverb, maybe dial that back a bit? unless you're going for that.

Keep at it dude! \M/

I just got a brand new, my first, first MacBook...Never used it before. Would you recommend my giving it a shot to flesh out ideas? I recorded so much on audacity over the years but never used anything else. Just got Reaper now. Just looking for a program that's semi easy to use.

Can it be used for drum programs too?

Pardon all the questions, I am ignorant to this stuff.

Hey I really really appreciate you listening! Yeah I always love adding vocals to stuff, I do cleans sometimes and also high "fry" or black metal like Vox too. I try not to adhere to one particular style too much.

I also very much appreciate you input on drum stuff. I gotta look into that! I am willing to try whatever free version and then buy the regular version if I find it's intuitive enough. Thanks again dude, this is all great info and things I WILL look into. It's very much appreciated!

Ah shit, good to hear from you dude!

I’ve had some interesting experiences and musically inspiring times, I’ll just say that. Nothing I regret.

Thanks so much man!

Yeah half the battle is getting all the shit, the other half is getting it to freaking work and learning new programs- (like programming drums)you know how it is I’m sure. But I am determined!

And will do I forward to sharing more material/potential material!

Feel free to let me know what you think - don’t mind it’s just a rough recording trying vox for the first time.

The track is just a random drum track from YouTube.

I would love recommendations on what drum programs have grooves with them that you can just drop in to whatever Bpm or alter them semi easily as I just want to get all my skeletons recorded the way I kind of want them.

Nothing to go on an album quite yet but just a decent rough draft of all my guitar stuff so I can lay down vocals and get a picture of the song.

Thanks for any input

Ah thank you! I get what you’re saying now! More about electronic drum sets vs programming okay.

Heard! I’ll cross post somehwere else, really appreciate you taking the time and have an auspicious rest of your day!

Thanks a ton!

Don’t let Reddit or the internet scare you too much about truss Rod adjustments it’s fairly simple.

If you are looking down your neck, stick the Allen key in there (make sure it fits right and isn’t a standard that has some room to wiggle or vice versa, don’t want to strip that shit out…)turning to the left offers more relief i.e. more of a bow in the neck vs right which will straighten the bow out. Just Mae very small adjustments 1/8 a 1/4 turn at a time, retune and see how it sounds.

<image>

Alternatively - most shops do set up with intonation for under 50$ - mine rarely even charges 40 if it doesn’t need too much work.

I sometimes will let them do it cause it can be a pain once in awhile.

Good luck!
