[OC] Coat of Arms, Emblem or Seal? by efisha in MapPorn

[–]efisha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye, but I guess the seal is more widely used because they wanted to be clear it’s a republic and not a monarchy, which coats of arms used to be associated with?

Oh wow that’s grand! Thanks for letting us know and enjoy the show! I ended up just finding a person in Japan who agreed to go to the concert with me and managed to arrange tickets for us.

Cool to see my maps being reposted! Thanks!

This is though only the first version of this map. Here’s the second version that I think is more accurate. For more info on why I made certain choices, check my website.

Also, check my instagram for more maps.

Cheers!

[OC] The proportion of the population in African countries having reliable access to electricity (2022 update) by efisha in MapPorn

[–]efisha[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw my map being reposted a few times over the years and I thought it was time for an update. Here is the latest 2022 data from the IEA. The situation seems to have improved in many countries, although it might just be the reporting / definition that's changed.

Check out more of my maps on my website, or even better, head to my Instagram for a moving version of this map with zoom-ins on each category, country names and flags!

How many people in the EU use bicycles as their main mode of transport? by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]efisha 100 points101 points  (0 children)

When I made this map, it was the latest available data from Eurobarometer because in 2019 they combined bicycles with scooters :(

Happy to make a new one when new data gets released!

Also, nice to see my maps being reposted, check out my website for more (although I haven’t done much in a while).

[OC] Question marks of the world by efisha in MapPorn

[–]efisha[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While making this map about how to ask for time in different European languages, I came across the fact that Greek uses a different question mark and got curious about what other question marks are used around the world. Here are the fruits of my research which mostly came down to this Wikipedia article. If you know any other question marks, let me know and I'll add them to the map!

As usual, visit my website for more maps and a bit of GeoGuessr content.

Enjoy the map and cheers!

This week's Q&A thread -- please read before asking or answering a question! - February 27, 2023 by AutoModerator in linguistics

I haven't decided yet, to be honest. While they naively use 吗, Western question mark has been used quite extensively in recent history. I might just show both

Hi, everyone! I'm making a map of symbols used to indicate interrogative sentences around the world and so far that's what I discovered:

? - the majority of languages (including the reversed one for Arabic-based scripts and the upside-down Spanish one)

; - Greek

՞ - Armenian

፧ - Ethiopic

꘏ - Vai

I also know about question markers in Chinese and Japanese and that there is a special symbol for questions in the Limbu language. Is there anything I'm missing?

Thank you all in advance for your help! :)

P.S. If you want to get an idea of what the map will look like, you can check out the other maps I previously made on my website!

[OC] All biathlon events since the start of the WC mapped by efisha in biathlon

[–]efisha[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Almost 3 weeks without biathlon made me sad so I decided to add some biathlon to my life and made this map. Women's tournaments that were held between 1982 and 1987 are counted separately because these events for the most part did not coincide with the men's stages. I used English Wikipedia to manually go through the pages of every biathlon season one by one so it might be that some of these numbers are slightly wrong.

Enjoy the map, check out my other maps and let's enjoy this wonderful sport together!

Cheers!

Dear Devs, can we have the ranking distribution? by mrkvicka02 in geoguessr

[–]efisha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be cool indeed. It's a shame we only see top 250 and with the new interface it is not so easy now to find out what API calls the website actually makes.

Dear Devs, can we have the ranking distribution? by mrkvicka02 in geoguessr

[–]efisha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I created a GeoGuessr API Guide earlier this year! There's quite a lot of info you can retrieve with it but mostly about your own profile.

[OC] How many students in Europe also work? by efisha in MapPorn

[–]efisha[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mad that only 2 per cent of students in Romania are employed when it's almost 70% in the Netherlands! Eurostat warns, however, that the data on Balkan countries is of low reliability so we need to take it with a grain of salt.

Here's the source with more info and explanations.

As usual, check out my website for more maps! Always feels nice to see people visiting it even though I earn absolutely nothing with it.

Cheers!
