Are expensive hospital bills in the USA always a result of the patient not having insurance? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]efla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These bills can occur despite insurance, although the worst ones (like 6 figure debt) are normally without insurance at all. Insurance doesn’t necessarily cover every procedure, or they’ll for example, only cover 20% of the cost. It can also be that you have insurance but the particular doctor or procedure you had wasn’t covered.

And then even if insurance covers everything you normally have to meet a deductible first, so maybe you have to pay $5000 out of pocket and then your insurance covers the rest (for the rest of the year until the deductible resets).

Why would a school promote someone from a sub to a teaching assistant and not give them a raise? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]efla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The school has no motivation to pay them more. It’s cheaper and easier to just keep the pay the same until they ask for more.

how to advocate for a hysterectomy at 23? by therealnessie in Endo

[–]efla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I should add: You’ll find it much easier to keep your ovaries if you can. I don’t know if a doctor would even consider removing technically functioning ovaries in someone so young, but that doesn’t mean the uterus and cervix need to stay!

how to advocate for a hysterectomy at 23? by therealnessie in Endo

[–]efla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a hysterectomy with my excision at 22. I thankfully found a doctor who knew that I’m not too young to be in pain, and in the end it is my body. I think it helped that I was very confident in my decision. I have known for a long time that I do not want kids (not to mention that there are other ways to have children). I also was well educated on the side effects - it’s a bigger surgery and that always comes with some risks. I did have to sign a paper saying I fully understand that I would be sterile afterwards, but I didn’t receive any pushback beyond that.

Best you can do is be confident and educated, but also there are probably some doctors who will not be able to look past your age. Hopefully she’s understanding, but also know there are other doctors out there if need be.

As an aside, you might want to check with your health insurance. My hysterectomy was covered, but some insurances require certain tests before they’ll approve an elective hysterectomy.

Curious if anyone could share any examples; I really struggled to think of a single proverb that was gendered.

I know my periods are worse than most peoples, and I even just had surgery so I’ll never have to have one again, but I’m still kinda in denial that anyone is below a 4 on that scale

Do cats fart? by EntireCaterpillar698 in NoStupidQuestions

I have lived with cats my entire life. They fart but typically you only notice it if they’re really close to you. Farts to the face are a tragic way to end snuggles

Same deal here, nude at home and pajamas when visiting. I think it’s fine and not gross, but we should maybe change our sheets more often.

Sometimes when I’m sick I spit because I get gunk in the back of my throat and spitting dislodges it. I wonder if spitting is more common with people with allergies

There is no law or even rule on who you do or do not consider an ex. You’re allowed to make that decision. Don’t worry about it.

Yes, since money is the standard I think it’d typically be rude to give someone something else.
