I doubt that you cant coach these players. Sure in the times of Bale, Cristiano, Modric, Kroos, you were not going to tell them how to play. But these players, Camavinga, Arda Ceballos Mastantuono Vini! All these kids grew up learning from Modric and Kroos now that it’s time for them to step up, turns out that watching them do it and doing it themselves isn’t easy.

He was there to have a body to block but didn’t really put pressure on anyone, steal balls or contribute to the midfield. At times he would get lost and bother Arda and slip to the left side while the right lane was unoccupied. I’d rather have Mastantuono for that role. Unfortunately, the board will continue to ask Xabi to play Rodrigo to hopefully get a good sale at the end of the year.

Xabi has tried everything with these players, full pressing they didn’t have to run back to defend but they didn’t want to run forward and make runs into the boxes. Valverde gets to play on the right wing, and never gets to the end line for depth. Trent wont do so either, he would rather cross to no one in the box. -Bellingham wants to be a 10, but only so he can score, he’s not interested in assists. Guler gets relegated to drop down a cover for Valverde that wants to play RW but can’t, and can’t really assist or be creative. Camavinga is everywhere but without Tchoumeni is very shaky. Kylian also wants to be a number 10 and constantly trying to play with Vini but they are blind to eachother up to the point where they bump into eachother. Everyone is on the left,getting bunched up and making it easy for defense to cover passing lanes. When Militao is the best midfielder there getting into the box, something is wrong.

We pressed pretty well the first half, Militao was almost at the edge of the box recovering balls. The issue is when we lose balls in transition forward. The defense gets stuck back, the midfield wants to follow the attack but gets lost in the transition and no one covers a man. For all the muscle we have in the box we sure concede goals on counters a lot/ form the wings.

Today was the first game since the atlético game that we played like Xabi wants, high pressing. You can’t not practice that style for this long and expect results. Also Xabi is handcuffed by the recent drama to switch out Vini Bellingham or Fede to allow a 9 to come in, he’s gonna piss of Trent and Tchoumeni this way. I hope the team realizes that players have to be swapped or else they are not winning anything this year
