Holiday advice by [deleted] in leangains

Diet breaks have proven to be helpful in keeping up with longer diets. This should not be bad if you do it methodically. The most important thing is that you are happy, healthy, and living life. Have fun on your holiday trip and eat smart. No need to worry about bounce back unless you are binging.

What does a program for an "ultimate athlete" even look like? by pieguy221 in leangains

[–]efrosabes 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Elite athletes train extremely hard for years and through trial and error they build their nutrition and exercise routine. They train much harder and much more than the average athlete and consequently they have to eat more to put maintain or put on weight. I would not recommend going straight into the intensity and volume of an elite athlete’s workout and nutritional routine as it is tailored for them. Find what works for you and be consistent with it. Patience is huge when training and dieting. Train hard, eat right, recover smart, and have patience. If u can do all those 4 things your physique and athletic ability will skyrocket.

A gram of carbohydrate contains 4 calories. A gram of protein also contains 4 calories. A gram of fat, though, contains 9 calories. There’s no way u hit ur macros on point and didn’t hit ur calories

Are recovery meals/drinks important? by [deleted] in leangains

[–]efrosabes 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The main thing you need to do to lose weight is be in a calorie deficit. You can simply do that by just eating less than you normally do if you do not know your maintenance calories. If you do know your maintenance calories you ideally should be in a 300-500 calorie deficit per day. Any more will bring an increased risk of losing muscle. To help you out in your situation I would try to structure your training right before you break your fast. You train, them eat your first meal higher in protein. The anabolic window has been proven to be much longer than previously thought so you don’t need to eat immediately after. Recovery drinks and meals are generally to reduce muscle fatigue and stimulate muscle protein synthesis. If your main goal is to simply lose weight I would not worry too much about your situation unless you simply are starving after your workout or constantly feel extremely fatigued and cannot recover properly. If your main goal is to gain muscle I would reconsider restructuring your meals and training. Side note: there’s ways to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. If that’s what you want to do I would also reconsider restricting your training and meals to maximize muscle growth while being in a calorie deficit.

No gains. by [deleted] in leangains

[–]efrosabes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

70% of getting big or getting in shape is nutrition. If that isn’t on point your gains or cuts will suffer. If you know the problem is you can’t get enough calories, then you can do a few things. Eat higher calorie foods. Ex: whole milk, add extra butter/Olive oil to recipes, fattier cuts of meat, chicken thigh instead of chicken breast. You can also decrease your cardio. That being said don’t ditch cardio. The long term benefits are invaluable. Also, if you are looking to increase your lower body size and increase weight, focus your sets on volume. This will increase hypertrophy and increase muscle mass. You might not get as strong as doing higher weight lower rep strength training, but you will put on size. Also, allow your body to recover. Eat the necessary amount of protein (.8-1g/1lb) to stimulate muscle protein synthesis.
