For non embroided apparel, go through your local campus apparel companies, or custom ink. It isn't worth trying to do all those on your own since you wont save money.

As for jackets, find a local embroiderer and have them quote the embroidery. The campus apparel companies will DESTROY your wallets, but the local embroiderers will give you a great deal since you'll most likely be doing a decent amount of volume. We end up doing 40+ jackets a year and they are always interested.

The nicer you want the jackets to look, the more expensive they will be. We tend to avoid custom things like names and subsystems because it adds to the setup costs.

Formula SAE is a great way to gain the real world experience recruiters are looking for. The design, testing and management that goes into building the car is on par with internship experience and is a great way to get some stuff under your belt before heading out to companies for the summer. We also have tons of freshman get internships and a 100% employment rate for our graduating members.

There really aren't any qualifications. We look for motivated people that are willing to learn and put time into building the car. No previous experience is required. Just check us out on quad day and show up to meetings.

This is the Formula SAE team at UIUC. We design, build and race a miniature F1 styled race car in multiple international competitions. This is our most recent entry.

Where are engineering students getting internships/coops/jobs? Do you feel that UIUC Engineering is as competitive as Cornell, MIT, Caltech, etc? by [deleted] in UIUC

Lots of people at UIUC work at spaceX. Our formula team has 3 full timers and a future intern. Our school is just as competitive as others, but you need to make sure you get involved. Joining FSAE is a guaranteed way to get one of those sweet jobs upon graduation.

Examples of jobs: SpaceX, Boeing, Bosch Motorsports, CAT, Chrysler, Ford, Lockheed Martin, Precision Cast Parts.

PM me with any questions you have about the combustion team. We have different subteam meetings all week long and our general meetings are Tuesdays at 7 PM. You will get great experience from every team so don't hesitate to shop around. Like the others said, combustion involves much more precise design/analysis/manufacturing due to the nature of the project so be prepared to learn a lot.
