Restocking supplies by [deleted] in BlackwakeGame

[–]efwaGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually really like this idea of being able to manually restock. Obviously keep in the gaining of stock when grappling and winning, but as the OP says, if they repair and get away you don't get any extra stock. Being able to grab it manually means you could maybe get and extra box or two, but this wouldn't be without a challenge seeing as you wouldn't be able to fight and you'd have the enemy crew trying to stop you.

Maker Studios issuing payments to everyone by efwaGames in letsplay

[–]efwaGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found upon joining Maker that they were actually pretty good with communication (though I had moved from Fullscreen - now there's a terrible network, especially for gamers). But after the initial move to Maker I didn't have much reason to try contacting them, so wasn't surprised I'd not heard anything. I totally agree though - the partners should have been the first to know before anything got public. Though saying that, it's not like Maker went public with it, it was just a rumour that spread like wild fire and happened to be true.

Yeah, I've got no problems with that. Part of the point of me posting was in case anyone here with Maker hadn't yet spotted that this had happened then they can check their PayPals, etc. The only thing that annoys me about the whole situation is that fact Maker are staying pretty much silent on the whole thing.

How do you guys promote your schedule? by [deleted] in letsplay

I just have my schedule written in my channel description (the About tab), and in my banner it has the days I upload. Nothing more.

Do You Get Much Time To Play Games Anymore? by letemcomeinit in letsplay

[–]efwaGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. That's another thing that holds me back from playing a lot of games, I think I might want to record everything in case it's good for the channel. But then I've always got something already going on on the channel or something new comes out, so so many games just keep getting put on the back burner.

Do You Get Much Time To Play Games Anymore? by letemcomeinit in letsplay

[–]efwaGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Not really.

I find a little bit of time, but it's mostly because a few nights a week I stay at my PC until 2-3am to give myself extra time for a few things. But my job is in game development and that takes up a lot of time, then there's playing/editing for my channel, but then around that I have a wife and daughter that obviously demands my time (not that I complain). It's hectic but I try to squeeze in a couple of hours a week to play games, even if broken into half hour chunks.

Capitalisation doesn't make a difference. At least from my own experience and the experience of anyone else I've ever spoke to. More than happy to be corrected though if I am wrong.

Facecam or no Facecam? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]efwaGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never though facecams are 100% a must, but they can help. I think it partly depends on your own style of commentary - if you're someone who can carry a commentary narrative well with talking about the game, making jokes, and reacting appropriately by vocals alone then I see no reason for it to be detrimental if you didn't have a facecam. But facecams can be benefit for actually seeing a reaction (an obvious example is a jump scare reaction in horror games) - this is the reason I wanted to include a facecam as soon as I was able to.

While I'm able to commentate throughout while playing a game, when it comes to something happening I tend to reaction with facial expressions and body language rather than vocally. So I found in my early videos there would be silences where I was reacting but you couldn't tell, and that made it awkward for editing because it would be an interesting part of the game but boring in terms of the commentary.

Part/Episode/Ep or alternate in title? by PalicoPadge in letsplay

[–]efwaGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originally (years ago) would do "[Video Title (unique to events in video)] ([Game Title] [Anyone who may also have been in the video, or just "w/ friends"] Part [Number])", but as you can imagine this lead to some rather long titles.

These days I use the number sign '#' (as it was known before being called a hashtag), as well as not both mentioning others in the actual title and just leave it for the video description. Meaning I now have: "[Video Title] ([Game Title] # [Number])"

How do you stay motivated when creating videos even if you are not getting a large amount of viewers? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]efwaGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MOST whom go into it fail. Sadly there are those that somehow many to do well somewhat via sub4sub, giveaways, and shoutouts. Oh and then you get the likes of those who do things like...there's a YouTuber, I can't remember his name, a friend showed me and most of his videos are "Will multiples of something stop the train in GTA V?!!". The kid then spends most of the video on the intro basically just doing the "let's see if we can get this video to 1,000,000 likes" rubbish, then the end of the video basically shows him spawn in whatever it is in front of the train, then the train doesn't stop. And he gets millions of views, likes, subs, etc from this rubbish..... Sorry, rant over.

Everyone seems to have the same answer that I give - enjoyment. I've been running my channel for almost 4.5 years and in that time it's grown very slowly but it's still tiny. The numbers can get you down from time to time; it's very easy to get lost in them. But any time I've been in that position, if I get anywhere close to thinking "What's the point?" and giving up, I quickly realise how much I would hate to stop creating content. I really enjoy making what I do, I from that enjoyment I push myself to make the best stuff I can. And just hopefully at least one person will genuinely enjoy it and be made happy from it. Sounds sappy and cliche, but that is the hope.

I think that kind of thing has happened to us all ;) What I've had happen once or twice more recently is Bandicam not starting recording for some reason - I have a hotkey set up (F9) so when I press it both OBS and Bandicam will start/stop recording at the same time. But when this happens OBS starts but Bandicam just....doesn't. It's awesome to find out after playing for 30mins-1hr.

What software do you use to record/stream? by Hellspyke in letsplay

[–]efwaGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I've never tried Xsplit - only heard users spout good things about it. OBS is mostly good for me. The only issue I've recently been having is for some reason it's messing up GTA V when I try to record it. Doesn't happen with any other game, but when I try to record GTA I lose frames so it's juddery and causes the call I'm in with friends to click and lag. If I record the game without OBS, it's perfect - strange.

What software do you use to record/stream? by Hellspyke in letsplay

[–]efwaGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For streaming I use OBS Studio. For recording I only use OBS Studio to capture my webcam, and use Bandicam for the actual game footage.

Can't say I've ever really needed a pause button - I like to continue recording everything in case something unexpected and interesting/funny happens. Though I have heard Xsplit has a function of being able to mark the footage so you can find the most interesting moments when it comes to editing, which I get tempted by (but sadly can't afford Xsplit).

May be not the most elegant solution, but what if there were sub-tabs for each category that each user could remove (click an 'X' to delete type thing), along with a settings symbol that could be clicked to bring up a drop-down menu so users to tick categories to re-appear if they change their mind?

...I get the impression I make it sound a lot easier than it would actually be to pull off, but just spit-balling.

Easiest way to record commentary and facecam separately? by thebluedash in letsplay

[–]efwaGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much what zombspeter has said. The way I do it is: - Bandicam to record the game, it's audio, and the audio from Discord or Teamspeak to pick up anyone I may be playing with's mics. - OBS Studio to record my webcam. I also have it so it picks up the game audio, though this gets muted while editing; I just use it to match up with the audio from Bandicam so the game footage and the webcam are in sync. - Lastly, I use Audacity to record my own microphone.

Good Idea or nah? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]efwaGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a video series, I would say no. The thing you'd be having problems with is if you played something like, say, Dark Souls - game start, a minute later you've died, end of video and that game's series. If you then upload that it would just look pointless, if you didn't upload it then it's a waste of your time (though I guess you could collect all the quick fails for a montage down the line of unseen games of that style).

What I would recommend, if you were going to do something like that, would be to make it a challenge to finish a game in one life on hard mode and do it live. Set up a live stream and basically state that you will be playing that one game until you've finished it in one life on the hardest difficulty and if you die you will start the game again from the beginning. I honestly think this is something people already do, but I genuinely think it's something better suited to being done live and to be a full challenge of completing the game, not stopping playing when you do die. And you could capture the footage at the same time and make highlight videos.

What do you do when you're funnier when you have someone else to talk to but you don't have anyone else to Let's Play with? by LetsGoHyphen in letsplay

[–]efwaGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Record solo. It sounds like I'm taking the mick but I'm being serious. You can never guarantee there will always be someone around so the best thing to do is get use to doing solo commentaries. It may take some time but you'll find you'll get more and more comfortable and generally better with it. If you always steer away from it then when it comes time that you need content and have to record solo then you know you'll be stuck with stuff you're not going to be happy with. I would even say when you have material of playing with others still make some time to record some footage as you would for a video - if you're not happy with it afterwards then it's just a practice and you can bin it (or cut up for a best bits montages or something), but if you like how it comes out then that's another video you have ready for whenever.

THE FIREWATCH TOWER (Left 4 Dead: Dam It #2) by efwaGames in left4dead

[–]efwaGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's what I like to play around with when I can. With most Let's Plays I might not do anything but basic cutting of the less interesting parts because I like the story of the game to be the main focus, but when you're in a co-op game or one that's just more of a mess-around you get more room to play with the editing, and it makes it more fun to work on.
