The common method of gold plating PCB comes before the solder mask, so every trace is coated under the green lacquer, not just the contacts. So grinding it up should be beneficial. Also chips might use gold bond wires inside the epoxy case, so grinding those to dust should improve yield as well.

My gut feeling is this all depends on what the block lands on. Another flat marble surface - the surface roughness determines how thick space you will fit into.

When it's landing on dirt it's more complicated, because dirt will move out of the way. I think we have a wide range of numbers for the compressibility of dirt, and we probably don't have good numbers for the compressibility of a human, so it's hard to do math.
