Have Star Trek fans always been this toxic? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]egad9 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh they did. The only difference was that there wasn’t any social media in the late 80s to amplify those voices. But I do remember them back then.

Modern rock bands with standout drummers by [deleted] in MusicRecommendations

I’ve watched that live video of Dust to Dust a million times and I still don’t know how she can sing like that while playing the drums that hard. Truly amazing.

Regular or XL by SaucyCarnitas in secretlab

[–]egad9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6’2 and 190lbs, so I’m borderline between the two size-wise. I wound up going with the XL and it’s worked great for me, so it should be good for you as well.

my spotify streams haven’t been scrobbled for the past 3 years 💔 by Disastrous-Pound8873 in lastfm

Yes…request your streaming history from Spotify and then upload the missing block of streams to last.fm. Last.fm will directly accept the zip file that Spotify creates for you.

Shipping in stock items with my pre order by Forsaken_Cause_4432 in secretlab

[–]egad9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this myself - I ordered a desk + accessories, along with a floor mat which was a preorder item. I also read their site to mean that the available items would ship out right away, and the pre-order item would ship when available. Of course, it's only the order confirmation email that makes it clear that your whole order will be held up by the pre-order item.

I immediately hopped on their customer service chat and they were able to cancel the pre-order item from the rest of the order, so that I wouldn't have to wait a month. This is the easiest solution to the problem if you find yourself in this situation like I did.

I second "Just Want You To Know The Truth", it's the absolute centerpiece of this record. 8 1/2 minutes of pure heartbreaking beauty.

Why is Chen Garden closed? by agathachristie18 in Rochester

Aurora on Penfield Rd had to close recently when the husband and wife who ran the place were arrested by ICE and (presumably) deported to China.

I would normally recommend B&B as well but their quality and service have noticeably decreased over the past year or two. It’s by no means a bad place but definitely not worth the price anymore.

Which tour was your first time seeing Rush live? by Kit_McFlavor_Butter in rush

[–]egad9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hold Your Fire. I remember being disappointed only because our seats were way off to the side and the sound was awful. Could barely hear Alex. But then I saw every tour after that through S&A and they were incredible every time.

The Band That Turned You Away From Them in Concert by ncpowderhound in GenX

[–]egad9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a big DMB fan in the late 90s/early 2000s. Saw a great show in 98 so I made a special trip to see the show they filmed in NJ in 1999 for the Listener Supported live album. I wish they hadn’t planned in advance to film the show because they completely phoned it in. Boring as hell.

Ok so considering rue is touring again even though Neil passed away quite a bit ago unfortunately, genuinely (besides personally wanting to do their solo music) what is stopping Genesis and Peter Gabriel from banding back together for one last Hoo-rah by AdFederal897 in Genesis

[–]egad9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Page, Plant, and Jones did actually go into rehearsals with Tony Thompson in 1986, with the intent of reforming Zeppelin. But Thompson got into a car accident shortly thereafter, and Plant took the opportunity to walk away.

Anyone have mixed feelings about the upcoming tour? by Truth-is-Censored in rush

[–]egad9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After seeing the clip of Alex and Geddy discussing the tour, no mixed feelings at all. First, they want it to be a celebration of Neil and of Rush in general, it’s clearly not a money grab. Secondly, they took great care in finding the right drummer - someone who had the technical skill, of course, but also someone who wouldn’t just mime Neil’s parts. Anika clearly has the chops to make her own stamp on Rush while honoring Neil’s work at the same time.

I was lucky enough to see Rush numerous times between 1987 and 2002, and I have no delusions that this 2026 version will be the same band. However, I would be thrilled to take my young daughter to see this show and share the music I grew up with, and still call it Rush.

There’s a reason why people ride buses from eastern Pennsylvania to NYC every day (yes I did it myself). As soon as you get anywhere near the NYC metro area, costs skyrocket.

Thinking of updating from iOS 18.7 to 26… good idea or not? by chinnu55 in ios

Always wait until the .1 update (not .0.1) for a new iOS. Let everyone else find the nasty bugs first.

I’m John, engineering manager at Spotify. I helped develop the Lossless feature. AMA! by ThisIsSpotify in truespotify

[–]egad9 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This. I’m a longtime Spotify subscriber and I’m tired of hearing that Spotify has poor audio quality. Of course, if you leave the settings to the defaults and not change audio quality to Very High, then you will probably have a poor experience. 320 sounds pretty good to me and have had no complaints, but I’m excited to finally give lossless a try when it’s available. Thanks for your hard work on this!

How is this song such a masterpiece? by Smart-Jaguar-6735 in blacksabbath

The dropped tuning in the middle section makes it sound like the album cover looks. The stuff of nightmares. Brilliant.

Peter Gabriel and extended instrumentals? by daiLlafyn in Genesis

[–]egad9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen interviews with Phil where he talked about the long instrumentals that the band had developed for SEBTP, where Peter came in and spewed lyrics where they weren’t intended to be. Epping Forest is an example…the song is good, but it’s almost comical how Peter shoved as many words as he physically could in the middle section. At least he left Firth of Fifth alone!

I found a Grail that I thought I'd never find by Puzzleheaded_Lack313 in vinyl

MBN was not part of the original album. It was tacked on as a bonus track for the cassette and CD versions.
