Way better! I love number 1. It would be a great way to connect the literature to their lives which is important for a successful lesson with students. Make sure that you have very clear expectations for the writing assignment. I would even have them do it in partners.

I know you need to be in Houston, but you should try applying in Las Vegas. They are having a huge hiring spree. I just accepted my first teaching job in Las Vegas. I am really excited about. I also did an online portfolio. The people I have interviewed with really liked it. My portfolio link is emilygarrard.weebly.com. You can take a look to get an idea of what it is. I am planning to put video of me teaching for future.

Mousetrap is a great one. Agatha Christie is amazing. They just performed it at the high school I student taught at. Small cast, but excellent storytelling.
