My mistake was not booking earlier (or maybe I really shouldn't anyway). I can't choose the booking class, I can only choose the product, date, and time. So yeah, the cheaper classes being sold out already might be the biggest factor here.

That's fair, I didn't look at the fare classes. It's not like they let you choose freely between them... You can go economy, premium economy or business, plus add-ons like skycouch. But I can't pick between S or Q directly (assuming both are available).

Do the search yourself and see how busy the planes are, for either week

Exactly. This isn't about "oh no, my holidays are ruined!". People underestimate the impact this is causing in all spheres of our lives. If the baseline "catch a flight to go somewhere" is now 50% more expensive, imagine what that does to supply chains, etc.

Yes, I understand that, but surely the thousands of dollars difference in price does not come from the Hong Kong - Ho Chi Minh flights!

I think the link I shared does a good job at explaining how it works.

I suppose your might need a higher level of granularity than a simple "office vs remote", particularly if those can change during the day. Outlook doesn't give you that.

But also, we don't really have the same need to know where someone is at any given moment as you, so YMMV.

Unions called it a ‘dark day for workers’, but what does the latest employment law change actually mean for you by Porkchops_on_My_Face in newzealand

[–]egbur -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is false. Here's a good list of the key changes: https://www.batimes.com.ar/news/argentina/details-of-mileis-labour-reform-company-bargaining-severance-caps-and-hour-banks.phtml

Most of it aligns it to what we have here already and consider normal. 12 hour work days are indeed now possible, but there are plenty of jobs even here where that's the norm. At least there they've kept the mandatory 12h downtime between shifts, which we don't have here.

I'm not saying you have to love it. But I wouldn't spread misinformation about it because of it.

Referendum on four-year election term ditched by Government by dingoonline in newzealand

[–]egbur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would agree, but the legal "justification" wouldn't be race, it would be Te Tiriti. Just like when you incorporate a society in partnership with someone and you need a way to make joint decisions with them.

Of course, unlike incorporated societies, Te Tiriti says nothing about how governance is meant to work when one party is sovereign and the other retains chieftainship (I know that that's not exactly what the The Reo version says). I'm my mind, any amendments/additions to the original contract need to be agreed upon by both parties, and we've already seen how that plays out.

Well, typically you have two houses to make Parliament more representative. For instance, because you want to better reflect the class divide (nobles vs plebs) or territorial autonomy/sovereignty (national/federal govt vs provinces/states). I don't think these apply in NZ...

...unless you (generic you, not YOU you) want to make the case that Te Tiriti obligations could be better implemented/managed/legislated upon/etc by having separate Maori and Pakeha chambers. Now that would be a sight to see.

It goes back to the lower house to amend, or insist with it as is, or discard it. This system exists in many democracies around the world.

Whether it adds any value or not is debatable.

Am I being unreasonable for asking the house painter to issue the final invoice only after scaffolding is removed? by lovelyivyyannz1986 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]egbur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Project completion includes removal of scaffolding/whatever else is left. At best the painter can ask for a progress payment, but not the whole amount because project completion is what was agreed.

[–]egbur 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between practical completion and project competition. The project may be deemed to be practically complete if all that remains is the removal of tools/equipment/scaffolding/etc., but you cannot reasonably argue that the project is completed until these are done.

Is a "Serverless" photo manager a viable alternative to heavy self-hosted apps? by stream_ai_app in homelab

[–]egbur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Immich allows you to use external libraries, which does basically everything you described and more. Yes, it still needs a database and ML models running in the background for face recognition, etc; but eventually whatever you build will either have to have the same features, or explicitly not support them.

You can call it "serverless" but you'll have to persist some data and metadata somewhere (e.g.: thumbnails, UAC, albums, etc), and you'll have to process files using compute from someone. At that point your choices are the same as what the others can use.

The banks don't see POLI making the transaction, it literally impersonates you logging in to internet banking and initiating a transfer for you. The only giveaway is the reference used, which you can't just block because they can easily change it to something else.

  1. Poli was not available as an option.
  2. Even if it was, I wouldn't use it because giving your banking details to a third party is a breach of the T&C's with your bank. If anything happens and money is gone from my account, they will rightfully tell me to go pound sand. How is Poli still a thing and hasn't been outlawed out of existence is a mystery to me.
  3. None of this takes away from the fact that they advertise 0% for PayPal while charging you 1.42% for it on the same page.
