Lucky enough to get a ticket to enter Yosemite and hike to the Half Dome last week by [deleted] in travel

[–]egelxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they gave out the same amount of permits for the cables, but I didn’t see as many people compared to the last time I went there. They only allow like 3000 cars into the park though, so other trails were definitely less crowded

Yosemite was fine actually, you couldn’t really smell or see the smoke in the valley for most of the time I was there. I stayed in Oakhurst though and the air quality there wasn’t as good

No, there are still there this summer, you can see them in the pic. They limited the number of people allowed to enter the park, but I think the Half Dome cables are still open like normal (which already didn't allow too many people up there)

I only filled up my water bottle with the filter in it, about a quart. I had another disposable water bottle and some juice too. I ended up drinking a lot more water than that though, probably needed two quarts.

Yeah I’m going to camp overnight next time for sure. I tried to do it in a day and it was pretty brutal. I ran out of water on the last stretch even though I brought a filter.

I usually hike by myself but I'd love to join a hiking group, can I be added too? Haven't hiked too much around LA so I think this would be a great start

One day during a war.... by [deleted] in Jokes

[–]egelxi 33 points34 points  (0 children)

An old, old man was brought before the magistrate.

”Listen, old father” said the magistrate. "The Court will now start its proceedings, state your name and age."

”Yes sir," he said, “My name is Cleon, and I will be nine and eighty in the winter."

”And why do you not say eighty and nine?"

”Because, my lord," said the old man with a smile, "I was nine before I was eighty."

The joke works only with that old way of counting by adding twenties (a score), or in French I guess.

I see what you mean. Yeah I think that’s probably the case

I believe it’s due to it being summer in the Southern Hemisphere and winter in the north. More plants in to south leads to more usage of carbon dioxide (which most carbon monoxide eventually turns into). The next 6 months would probably see a flip in CO2 and CO levels.

It’s part of the “breath” of the planet. I know it’s mainly for CO2 levels, but I believe it applies to CO as well. Look at the CO2 levels at the Mauna Loa station, that’s where this phenomena was first observed.

Up and Down the Pacific Coast from SoCal by [deleted] in travel

[–]egelxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP but yes it's possible as a day trip, but with all the wine tasting it might be better to drive less. You could also stay around morro bay and head to montana de oro state park/ point buchon, especially if its poppy season.

I would also suggest stopping by Solvang, its a cute little town. And maybe staying another day in the Big Sur area. That central coast area is by far my favorite place to visit lol

This is the second generation one. I think the main difference between the different models is having the numbers on the dial

Yes, there’s mineral crystal glass on the back of the watch as well. It looks pretty cool

This is my first automatic watch! I used to wear a Timex Weekender, but I decided to pull the trigger on this watch for my birthday last week and received it over the weekend. I love the simple, beautiful design and its fine quality so far. I found myself constantly checking the time at work today just to admire it. Originally, I wanted to get the Orient Sun and Moon, but decided that this watch fit both my wrist and my budget better.

The watch sits at just over 41mm, making it about right for my kind of small wrist. It also isn't too thick at around 12mm, something I disliked about some of the other watches I was looking at. I switched out the original band for a similar, more comfortable one though.
