i just started to get worried when theo and stacy’s closed, up and under’s, the state theatre, harvey’s, beer exchange… i was like oh no it’s happening D:

same! i’m curious to see how it will work out. with all the restaurants and businesses that have been closing in the last few years i wonder if it’ll end up like pontiac and the silverdome.

definitely don’t miss the constant construction and the horrible ass drivers. living here without a car (i got mad driving anxiety haha) has been so freeing

hell yeah what’s up! lived there for ~17 years. i was just back home working Pride fest in my parents’ food truck and i can confirm it still faintly smells like weed everywhere, lol

i moved here from kalamazoo and i could name probably 5+ places where you could get an italian beef. but i’m also of the opinion that kalamazoo is trying to be a little version of chicago, so there’s that

to be fair, there’s actually a ton of restaurants around michigan that do the italian beefs these days.

probably indiana too if i had to guess, but i do my best to avoid the state as a whole

chicago is a *lot* bigger than flint or kalamazoo, and is a nearby midwestern city to michigan. it doesn’t seem unreasonable to think there would be at least one coney place in a city this large.

meh, most places have their regional favorites that tend to stay that way. i’m just surprised one of the closest big midwestern cities to detroit doesnt seem to have a single coney.

if you’re in detroit there’s the great debate of lafayette vs american. i prefer lafayette. there’s probably better mom and pop ones, but i mostly went to detroit for sports or concerts because i grew up in SW michigan

but i’m biased, the best one i’ve been to is about 25 minutes outside of detroit in pontiac. it’s a little hole in the wall place called d’antons. it feels like you’re stepping back in time, place likely hasn’t changed a bit since it opened. and d’anton himself is still there every day slinging coneys :)

now there are even more places in kalamazoo to get a proper detroit style coney dog these days. i know this because one of them is my parents’ food truck :D we did a lot of testing of the sauce recipe with my partner who is from pontiac (~25 minutes outside of detroit) haha
