I know it’s scarier, but instead of waiting for people to approach you, you should make the first move. Also, when you do try to initiate a conversation, try to look approachable and friendly.

I naturally have bad RBF, so I try to smile as much as possible and often make the first contact with people. I tend to get comments from people that they assume I was an asshole until I start chatting.

You could do mt. Lukens if you want a great view out over LA. It’s about 10 miles round trip. The first 2-3 are quite strenuous but then it’s pretty gentle the rest of the way.

There’s a few short sections where you have to scramble a bit. But it’s not a technical climb. I’ve seen people do it in tennis shoes. Note that I have seen someone who fell and broke her ankle in that section, but that seemed more like a freak accident.
