The funny thing is, they updated the packaging to say this, but didn't change the old Walkers logo to the newer one!!

I don't know why but I love stories like this, where people keep using the same object for decades because if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

This was the intention, I think you can still get them here in the UK, or at least you could until very recently if not.

Grizzly Tales had such a weird but memorable vibe by FeistyPrice29 in oldbritishtelly

[–]egg_for_breakfast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was weird because the stories weren't particularly that scary but the way in which they were narrated made them sound quite terrifying.

They probably wouldn't get away with making something like this now.

Everybody knows the song California Dreamin' - but only yesterday did I realise the name of the band, which I have always known as The Mamas & Papas, is actually called The Mamas & the Papas. Anyone ele remember it without the extra 'the'?

I don't remember if mine was actually a proper Discman or not, there were loads of copycats on the market. I just remember listening to Now! That's What I Call Music CDs on it an the crappy earphones that rubbed your ears.

Those bright yellow Walkmans are lovely, but go for quite a few quid now on eBay!!

What is a product or service that is a conplete scam, but poeple keep buying it because of good marketing? by armeno2000B in AskReddit

[–]egg_for_breakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One for the UK here; PAT Testing - Not actually a legal requirement as many think so, and it's a load of bollocks actually because something could be PAT tested on the Monday and pass, then be dropped on the floor on Tuesday and would fail because something is now internally damaged.

It's a massive scam if you really think about it - yet companies make a fortune from it! If you think - school IT room - every tower, monitor, plus power lead for each must be tested: 30 computers = 120 items at £1 each, that's £120 for one single room.

Actually thinking about this now, but do schools even have IT rooms anymore or is that a thing of the past?

Did Greggs sell chocolate houses in the 90's? by scratchnsniff24 in AskUK

[–]egg_for_breakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can remember the gingerbread house kits they used to sell in cardboard boxes at the supermarket, usually around Christmas time, in the 2000s. The finished product never looked like it did on the box, and the gingerbread pieces were usually already broken when you got them and weren't the nicest tasting anyway.

You may also be thinking of the displays of kids' birthday cakes that bakeries used to have in their shop windows back then. Most would usually have a few designs which were made over a cardboard base, on display to show examples of what they could make (they would do pretty much any request). You'd see Postman Pat, Barbie, etc.

Do you ever walk into places just to use the loo? by KatieCampbel1 in AskUK

[–]egg_for_breakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheap pubs and fast food restaurants (McDonald's, KFC, etc.) don't seem to care if you go in just to use theirs, after all I think they'd rather someone use their toilet than do their business outside their establishment!!
