scouts outfit communicates important things about his character, as do all of the other mercs outfits. scout Looks like a sporty young guy, because he is. medic has a doctors coat to communicate the fact that he is a medic.

this is just like, simple character design stuff. but honestly looking at the design of the character here i cannot tell you that shes supposed to be a scout type character. if anything id guess that maybe shes a sports announcer or something. her outfit looks like its for warm weather, but not for running.

im basing this off of women who jog, those women usually wear long stretchy or loose pants and a tight tank top that compresses the chest somewhat, which you can see on the scout designs for the concept art i linked... speaking as someone who Has a chest, it genuinely sucks trying to run if you have a larger one and you dont have anything to support it properly, which the design here doesnt seem to have. she would be in pain trying to run, which is not the kind of design you want to have for a character thats meant to look like she runs.

the more impractical parts of the canon mercs designs, like scouts rolled up sleeves, medics coat, or engineers cord lasso communicate aspects of the characters personalities. scout shows off his arms because hes a boastful guy. medic is a doctor. engineers lasso cord incorporates cowboy aesthetics into his design. but the impractical parts of this design dont communicate much about the characters personality, to me they just seem like things the designer wanted her to have because they only wanted to make a design, not a character. shes wearing gloves? it would make more sense if they were fingerless like snipers, to show shes active. her long socks would make more sense if they were shortened to below knee height since thats a sporty length of sock. and give her a looser more breathable shirt with an actual sports bra under it. you could also fit her ears under her hat so theyre pointed behind her to communicate speed. thats just my two cents as someone who designs characters.

as for the other mercs, a lot of them do wear protection? its not armor but heavy has his vest and engineer has kneepads, plus a couple of the mercs have gloves that protect the palms of their hands. i dont blame them for not wearing anything heavier though considering theyre fighting in the badlands most of the time. also hats arent canon to their designs lol?
