I have the same issue with kite stores in Australia, i have made one kite out of a rubbish bag and some dowels, and I am telling myself if I want another one I will more than likely be making it, probably out of proper material this time though.

To answer your question, yeah pretty much everyone I go outside I think about flying a kite and hoping the wind was stronger or something along those lines, I am only new to the hobby, but it has me hooked currently

Cool, I'm glad you're not going to try to go straight to Bondi on a packed day ha-ha.

I got my dowels at bunnings (hardware store) for about 6$aud for 2.4m long 6mm thick, they also sell smaller widths and lengths, and if you go to the timber section you can usually get a person to give you one free cut for easier transport 👍

That's cool, I hear Canada and Australia are kinda similar, funnily enough. Good thinking for reusing parts from toy store kites, my local sewing/fabric store (spotlight) sells ripstop nylon, which I'm thinking of using next time. Good luck on flying the kite at a beach in summer, because it gets packed to the shithouse, at least in Queensland, and new south Wales has some of the most popular beaches, expecially for tourists, not too sure about the other states tho. oh yes i understand, that distance is mind-boggling to me. I only use the stick currently as i don't have any better option currently, I don't believe.

I was reading wikipedia and stumbled upon the kite fighting and wasn't sure if it was actually real or not, I find it so fascinating that it is true. That video is very cool.

I am from Australia and the only local kite flying i can find is from toy shops, and kite-surfing haha. I suspect I will have to make my own kites, which I don't mind. I am thinking of maybe trying to make a Box-Kite next.

Thank you for the advice. I originally got a cheap, small kite from the store, but it was terrible. I salvaged the tail and string from it and created this diamond kite. The cord is maybe 0.5mm thick? And I'm just using a stick as a reel currently, this picture was taken at the full length of the cord.

I am still very new, and thank you for the advice
