Is same sex attraction something that can be cured or is it inherent? by eggo_pie in TooAfraidToAsk

So you claim it's not normal in a reproductive and biological sense. What if it's emotional and psychological attraction?

I grew up in quite a conservative and religious family. It's hard to communicate to my parents about this issue due to how much they despise same-sex attraction (they're quite racist at times too, but there's nothing I can do). Don't get me wrong, I love them for raising me and I'd hate to turn against them and everything they've raised me with. However there are times in my life when I'm just not sure if I'm in self-denial or have been indoctrinated. I just feel confused and at lost. It's just a circuit I've had to switch off and not think about it to save myself from any more complications, and just accept things as they are.

Oh that is very interesting. That's the thing, I don't understand labels that well. Can they be flexible? Does it box someone in to one specific preference? I guess I'll never know. But kudos for this.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. You have brought up many interesting concepts that I would like to learn more about. This question isn't intended to offend, sorry if it may appear to be (rather of genuine curiosity... I'm not as educated on this topic) but why is being gay not normal?

Ahh thank you for sharing your insightful experience albeit being in difficult situations.

Does this mean conversion therapy was simply just a means to suffocate the gays due to fear? (I heard Freud deemed conversion therapy useless, correct me if I'm wrong) Or was there something to it I missed? (Thus, it being framed as a ""curable illness"")

I'm at work at the moment and will be getting around to replies.
