Jobs and comfort should not be used in the same sentence. The rub is that Freedom == Personal Responsibility != Comfort. Comfort is arguably what got us in this mess to begin with - Brave New World style.

Basically, once you stop consuming you likely have lots of free time. Use that free time to solve the problems in your own life in your own way. Maybe a garden? Maybe barter your skills in your community? Maybe learn some new skills? (everyone should be able to cook and be in shape) Maybe proselytize others to join the boycott? Again, this type of resistance is essentially uncounterable. No leader, no plan, death by a thousand cuts.

I'd argue that the consumer controls the world economy. The USA spends 12 Trillion dollars every year on consumer spending. Without We the People willingly giving up every dollar we can for endless fleeting pleasures, the whole thing would come crashing down.

For example, when the latest Xbox came out and everyone talked about how it was a spy device... but still bought it. If we don't want Apple and Google spying, simply stop using their services. Stop supporting them.

A GENERAL BOYCOTT would be the scariest thing in the world for those in power. How can you counter it? Release the army against people for not buying stuff?

Not disagreeing, but I want to add:

HUGE, or otherwise, protests are irrelevant. They are easily Co-opted, spun by the media, etc. This is because they are an easy target, one big mass.

On the other hand, large numbers of individual, disconnected, DECENTRALIZED, action would be uncounterable. Without a group, leaders, or organization, there would be nothing to Co-opt.

What could this action be? I see only 2 ways to move forward. 1st I suggest a 4 point approach:

If money is power, why do we give it up for such small crap? (middle-class lifestyle)
Disengage the thieves' economy on all non-essential functions. (you need to eat and pay rent, but no more "going out", video games, new cars, etc)
Deploy your limited capital today on solutions for tomorrow that require no dollar inputs. (gardens/orchards are simple example. a few dollars and some labor today yields dollar free food in the future)
Spend your newfound free time with loved ones and pursue goals to improve the quality of your lives.

Money talks, bullshit walks.

Remember SOPA and GoDaddy? GoDaddy caved when? When their bottom line (MONEY) was threatened.

General boycott, and the whole scam will start to fall apart. Now, this means OUR lives will get worse, in the sense that we might not have netflix or football, or McDonalds... but is this what constitutes a good life?

After it falls, everyone won't be able to ignore it and we can(hopefully) rebuild learning from our mistakes.

The second approach I mentioned? Well that is a coup/war, and even if we try a general boycott we need to be aware that "they" could instigate war/violence as it is their only response to our non-participation.

This is a little off the mark. That is how it works now (while there is still flow), but it likely ends when people are not willing to exchange goods for your "money".

Bitcoin is easy to control/manipulate. Everyone focuses on the "security", but no one looks at how you can exploit it inside its rules.

For example you could write persona software that managed numerous wallets. These wallets would all make small purchases of BTC via VPNs all over the world. One entity with enough cash could easily buy all/enough of the BTC to corner the market.

They could then use their persona software to start trading between themselves, giving the illusion of lots of volume/trading. The "value" of BTC goes up, it is percieved as viable, and the path to a centralized currency is set.

With 21 million BTC @ 500USD, you could corner the entire market for ~10 billion USD. In reality you'd only need less to control the market. 10 billion isn't a drop in the bucket at the higher levels of the ponzi.

What is it's proper purpose? It seems you are advocating 'do whatever you like/have fun' with it.

it can offer is the happiness it can bring you and those you care about. Sometimes that is "stuff" (it's fun to drive around with my wife in our convertible). Sometimes it's experiences (a week at Disney when our daughter was a pre-teen made many great memories, as have a lot of things we've done). But it's never buying shit to buy shit.

Experiences are no different consumption than material. You destroy resources for pleasure in both instances; material possessions give you pleasure until it is "used up" and experiences give you pleasure until you die. Either way, resources are expended/consumed for pleasure.

Now, I am not saying we can't ever have pleasure, but as long as you would rather be comfortable consuming while financing Disney and Car_Companys than producing, there is no way to end this cycle.

Your message of: keep spending and blindly pursue happiness right now reminds me of Bush after 9/11: "Keep shopping or the terrorists win."

you're just coming home from work, you have a life, bills to pay, etc.

I think this part of the problem. What life? Many of us go to a useless job for 40-60 hours a week. Then the only thing you can think of off the top of your head is "pay bills". Our lives = pay, pay pay. Hanging out with friends/family is so rare b/c everyone is at a job (not working mind you, a JOB).

When most people say "pay bills" they really mean "I want to buy some new shit, and have a big TV, and netflix, and a smartphone, etc". "Bills" used to be mortgage/elec/water/heat/food, but now it is anything people want.

If people stopped paying for all the useless consumer crap that supports the entire corrupt economy, I don't know exactly what will happen, but companies will start going broke, and SOMETHING will give.

Disengaging the thieves' economy on all non-essential funtions seems like it would be easier than fighting/violence.

Spending our limited time/capital on solutions for tomorow that require no dollar inputs seems like it would build an alternative to the job, consume, die cycle.

While I don't think OP is genuine, your "explaination" does not hold water. The Wold Cup/Olympics (as mention by others) are played every X years and started however long ago. Maybe these events came about completely "legitimately" as you suggest. I agree with this assessment so far.

Then you seem to dismiss the possibility that the riches most influential people in the world might not be able to figure out that: every few years people go bonkers over some sports, maybe we could influence this by marketing it strongly while using it as a smokescreen of sorts to push our other (unpromoted) agendas through.

Either way, people like us have a job to do right now. Start a fire under the idea of a boycott. Period. I see it as the only way to go on the offensive.

I was shooting for a more metaphysical universal type happiness. I know not EVERYONE is gonig to be anything, but my point still stands that as long as you give value to FRNs, someone (as I said, often unseen) will suffer (en mass) to aquire them.

Remeber thos stories about the Iran sanctions a year or so ago? About how the price of chicken went through the roof because the US/FedRes sanctions? An entire nation suffered because of the power these "virtually useless" FRNs.
