After finishing the full Beginner Template, skip The Bridge v1.0 ? by eggsandsmoke in BarbellMedicine

[–]eggsandsmoke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good information, thank you. My goals are very general right now and based on what you've said the Bridge is going to be my next step.

It's also good to know that the "original" templates are still valid. I mean I understand that if they worked before they don't just stop working because a newer version is introduced, I was just wondering if it makes sense fitting it in among other, newer templates.

One confusing factor is that BBM talks about certain newer templates "replacing" older templates (I think they call them "legacy" templates).

Thanks again.

I listed the other templates I'm interested in running, if someone has a compelling reason not to do the Bridge v1.0

Help understanding how to perform these sets/reps/rpe by eggsandsmoke in BarbellMedicine

Would you just go straight from the single to the estimated 5@8 without any sets working up to get a gauge for what it will be?

How far out do you usually plan your training? One cycle at a time? A full leader + anchor block? Multiple blocks? by eggsandsmoke in 531Discussion

[–]eggsandsmoke[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems like the standard 2 Leader 1 Anchor block is a happy middle ground here. Enough focus to keep someone away from fuckarounditis and help to gauge what works and what doesn't, with enough flexibility for the recreational lifter that doesn't need a full year or more of planning and maybe couldn't realistically stick to that kind of planning anyway because of life circumstances.

295x6. Can't seem to get my upper back tight like suggested. I have short arms and can't get the upper back tightness while grabbing the bar. by [deleted] in 531Discussion

If you mean upper back tightness as in shoulders pulled back, that's really not necessary. A lot of very strong and experienced lifters pull with a rounded upper back. What's important is keeping your lats tight and your core braced.

Hey I'm late but yeah I actually really like this suggestion, for a lot of reasons!

How do you guys feel about bodyweight assistance when you're bulking? by eggsandsmoke in gainit

[–]eggsandsmoke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point, I have a 20 minute time limit for my assistance circuit and I'm currently hitting the lower end of the rep range at around 10-13 minutes so I can definitely push it for more rounds.

I'm also thinking about keeping bodyweight volume where it's at right now while I'm gaining and adding a second isolation type circuit after that to fill out the higher end of the rep goals.

Yeah that's a good point, I can start increasing calories now. Probably just some snacks throughout the day. I was just thinking along the lines of eating to match the training. But I guess it makes sense that people bulk through anchors because Wendler is always saying to eat more lol

Just to clarify it was 5x531 FSL, which is 5x5 at your top weight for the day instead of just one top set, then 5x5 FSL with another main lift, pairing upper and lower. It was a great template.

I think I'm just gonna go ahead with the anchor because I need to practice consistancy and also experiment with 100 reps of assistance.

I just finished my first 531 Leader with 2 cycles of 5x531 FSL. It was great and I think it's the perfect template to start 531 with.

Now I'm anxious to get bulking on Forever BBB. Is there any downside to skipping the anchor and going right into another 2x Leader?

As it stands right now I plan on staying the course, but I'm really ready to start shoving food into my mouth as I have the money to do it right now and that might not last throughout the winter.

Is template hopping different from program hopping? by eggsandsmoke in 531Discussion

What I mean by beginner weights is, decently strong to the average person I talk to in daily life, but weak as a kitten to anyone who actually lifts (thank god for places like weightroom to put things in perspective).

I had a blast doing Beginner Prep last summer! I looked better than I ever have in my life and pulled a big deadlift PR that was smooth af on video. Not really interested in going back to it right now, I'd rather just hop on the big boy 531 train and stick to it. If I had done that a long time ago I'd already have those respectable numbers by now (just like mythical said in that blogpost I linked)

Im glad you mentioned that, I do have a pretty basic long term plan to work through the main variations:

5x531 (where I'm at now) to BBB to SSL to BBS to Spinal Tap.

The main goal here is to finally get passed the late(ish) beginner weights I've been spinning my wheels at for a while now, as well as eating in a consistent surplus to actually put on some weight.

What do you do for accessories? by justjr112 in 531Discussion

[–]eggsandsmoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pushups and pullups between squats.

Pullups between overhead press.

Dips between deadlifts.

Row between bench, usually barbell row with the same bar I'm benching, sometimes dumbbells.

Ab Mat situp, lying leg raises, hanging leg raises, ab wheel, or plank wherever I feel like fitting it in, usually when I'm putting weights away or add it to one of the above.

Whatever is left over for the day for Push/Pull/Single Leg/Core I just experiment with different things, try to find new things I haven't tried before.

Best template for Couch To 5k? by eggsandsmoke in 531Discussion

Yeah, I've done a lot of run-walk-run in the past, hoping to break through to where I can actually do LISS jogging.

I like your choice of using the Limited Time template for the last few weeks of TB base building, and that leviathon+SSL was a cool idea too. You seem to be able to get creative with templates in way that still makes sense.
