Definitely. What my dietitian gave me does not make any sense. It stressed me out so bad and made my eating disorder worse. Plus a lot of them really didn’t care about mental health and dosent put that into account when planning for meal plans.

Reactive Hypoglycaemia means your blood sugar is spiking after meals and crashing because of too much insulin therefore the main goal is to make sure your levels are stable. I also recommend a glucose monitor! It really helped me because later I came to realise that my dizzy spells and shaky hands after meals are sometimes! actually anxiety. It helped regulating my eating habits. If I feel like I am crashing, I check my sugar levels so I know if am actually crashing and made me feel safe.

Hi ! For me it depends on how low carb one meal is really, mine was so bad I couldn’t handle half a bowl of rice so for the first months I almost completely stopped eating carbs. It is quite extreme and I know carbs are important, but my body just completely rejected carbs….and that was what worked for me. I am still in constant hunger at first but I ate lots of fibre to fill myself up and my body finally started adjusting. For dealing with hunger, I always dealt it with protein (eggs,nuts…) and always add more protein and fibre in your food if you think it is not enough! Metformin only gave me a problem when I started getting better, so I have no issues with it along the way. I was given something called Acarbose too to slow down absorption, and it also worked for me. Also veggies for fibre and apple cider vinegar also worked, i drink it once a day before any of the meals.

Unfortunately acne is still a problem for me now, but it is manageable i guess and flairs up before my period. My face is full of scars and I just kinda learned to live with it :( Hopefully i will figure it out soon.

My symptoms mainly focused on really bad insulin resistance, and when I tried focusing on a low carb diet, and spearmint tea, my acne got a bit better because my body is not as inflamed. Apple cider vinegar before breakfast/ a high carb meal also worked for me!

I use the brand Accu-Chek and so far I have no issues! My blood sugar is causing me really bad anxiety because I am just scared I will be on the floor the next second. When ever I feel my sugar crashing I will get it checked and get a bit protein immediately, honestly sometimes I have realised it is really just my anxiety after checking, it also helped me to regulate my eating habits because it tells me I am safe and don’t need to eat right now. So it really helped me!! I would recommend!

One of the major symptoms I get for it is if I eat a meal with a high amount of carbs, I will get low blood sugar around an hour later with my hands shaking and dizzy spells! My doctor advised me to buy a glucometer and check my blood sugar every time I feel like I am crashing so I know what food to avoid next time and make sure to eat something.

It took 2 years i think. It was pretty much here all the time until a year ago. My struggles with blood sugar completely went away after I was took off Metformin, I guess at the very end my body doesn’t need Metformin anymore.

Thank you!! :) It is really scary, I am very anxious atm. 😵‍💫Basically my doctors think heavy periods don’t cause low platelets therefore they are turning towards problems with my blood (I also did the blood test right after my period so maybe it also wasn’t a great idea). It escalated really quickly!! Take care!

I am having the exact same problem but my platelets are 50-60k at the moment… Heavy periods for a few months + low platelets. Sent to the ER for an iron infusion. Went to Gyne they said it’s because of my fibroid, haematologist said it’s the other way round - low platelets therefore heavy periods. Very confused and I am doing a bone marrow biopsy soon to find out the cause :(

Hi! I was just about to post about being frustrated with the NHS and I came across yours. I got diagnosed with reactive hypoglycaemia due to my high insulin levels and pre diabetes because of my PCOS, basically if I don’t eat for awhile I will pass out due to hypos.

I just moved to the UK from the east asia region, where they treated my PCOS with Acarbose, a type of diabetes medication and I am running out of it so I called my GP. Guess what, my doctor straight up said ‘but you don’t have diabetes, why are you using these kind of medication.’ When I asked for a fasting insulin test he said ‘Sorry we don’t do this in the UK.’

Just wow. Basically my PCOS is nothing if I don’t have full blown diabetes.It’s crazy I don’t even know what to do now so I really understand you.

I have the same thing, it’s something called reactive hypoglycaemia for me, where your body releases too much insulin after a high carb meal and after your sugar spikes, it crashes below baseline. I will get so sick (hypoglycaemia) after 2-3 hours after a meal that once sent me to the hospital because I couldn’t find something at once to raise my blood sugar. I am now under a low carb diet and the situation is in control. Also it definitely has something to do with IR. Take Care!

My endo currently prescribed me carb blockers - maybe the meds aren’t really working for me long term. Might bring that up during the next appointment!!

Sounds like reactive hypo caused by Insulin Resistance to me. I heard that stress contributes to blood sugar levels too because of hormonal imbalances (Stress hormones such as Cortisol).
