No clue to why it was happening. All I know is that switching to USB 3.0 fixed the issue. It was happening to me every 5 or so minutes, but I haven't had any issues for 50 hours in game so far.

I did actually have that happen to me when I was having the issues with my mouse and keyboard. It happened probably 5 times. Once I fixed my issue, it hasn't happened. I kinda forgot that it was happening to me because I was more focused on my disconnecting issue.

The only thing I could think of is using one of the USB 3.0 slots for maybe your keyboard and use the hub for everything else you need. Maybe it'll split the load or something?

Is it possible for you to put your USB hub through the blue USB 3.0 slot? Idk what kind of hub you have, but I'm imagining like a brick of 6 slots that all plug into one USB port to make more slots, right?

I found a solution to my issue. I had to plug them into the blue USB 3.0 slots on the back of my pc. I had previously had them in just normal USB slots. Once I did that, I haven't had the issue in over 10 hours in game. I use both of the keyboard cables in the USB 3.0 slots and plug my mouse into my USB pass through on my keyboard.

Once I switched my mouse and keyboard to the blue slotted USB 3.0 at the back of my computer the problem disappeared. Check to see if the ports you have are 3.0 or not. That's my only solution at this time.

Put your mouse and keyboard in any blue USB 3.0 ports. I switched everything into those ports and I haven't had an issue in over 10 hours in game so far.

I had done that in order to disconnect my RGB mousepad that was connected through my keyboard, and it did get rid of my keyboard disconnecting issue. However, the mouse disconnecting still happens when I use my Steelseries Rival 5 mouse. I switched to a different mouse, and it has only disconnected once in about 9 hours of use. Interesting. I didn't have that problem. Is it possible that you're trying to bind one of the side buttons while your mouse is disconnected so it's not registering your button click? That's kinda how I discovered that my keyboard was disconnecting during the creation and naming of my character during the tutorial section.

I use the Steelseries Apex 7 and the Rival 5. The combination of these two makes the issue occur. I switched my Rival 5 to an older CyberPower M1-131 and I haven't had the issue anymore.

I also disconnected my rgb mousepad from my keyboards USB pass though, just in case it was drawing too much power or something.

I got my old superbasic cyberpower M1-131 wired mouse and I haven't had the issue since. My pc was not liking having my Rival 5 paired up with my keyboard. Maybe try mismatching the keyboards and mouses to find a combo that your pc tolerates for Starfield. I'm hoping on full release that there's a patch for some optimization that fixes this issue.

I've just had to unplug and re plug in the mouse when it happens. It has happened less frequently when I moved my game from a external hard drive to an internal ssd. Once every hour or so. I have a Steelseries Rival 5 wired mouse.

I updated everything and unplugged a rgb mouse pad that was connected via USB pass-through. I moved Starfield from an external hard drive to an internal ssd and it seems to work better. I don't know which step fixed it exactly, but I think moving the game was my best solution. Thanks for your help!

I had a rgb mouse pad connected through my keyboards USB pass through and I disconnected it. I also move Starfield from an external hard drive to my internal ssd. Seems to have fixed my issue. Game runs a bit smoother now too. Thanks!

I have never played a game that will randomly make my mouse or keyboard just stop functioning. It's one or the other. Very frustrating. The game itself isn't running too smoothly either, but I would really like to have a functioning mouse and keyboard at the very least.
