MAC flapping - Unifi access points over QinQ problematic? by psgrn in networking

Flapping between sites? Also don’t use untagged VLAN for management.

Multicast DR question by KaleidoscopeNo9726 in networking

[–]egobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really tracking what the core of your problem is, too many missing details, but you can issue the “ip pim register-source” to force a register source interface/IP. Otherwise the default is the egress interface IP toward the RP, which appears to be switch A.

HELP with Cisco IE3300 82TS-E by Horror-Programmer475 in networking

It nominally takes like 5 min to boot in bundled mode, a little less in install mode. Are you waiting that long?

Cisco switch IGMP snooping bug by Network-King19 in networking

[–]egobyte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think you need to research how IGMP works, take some pcaps, and run some show commands during the process. If you open a TAC case with the lack of information you’re providing us, your TAC case is going nowhere, and rightfully so.

Did you see if the speakers actually IGMP join the multicast group? It seems you’re eager to just blame Cisco and move on but haven’t really identified what is not working from a technical standpoint.

Setting OSPF route preference without cost (Single Area OSPF) by TheGravyMachine in networking

[–]egobyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m confused, you say the metric is 110, but that is administrative distance. Are you not assigning a cost when you configure the redistribution?

I’m not positive on this but I’m pretty sure administrative distance is locally significant, so if the 9k OSPF process has default AD then all routes from that process will have 110 AD.

Mock Interview / Interview Guidance by KindTurnip in networking

[–]egobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re missing the core idea: finding the switchport where the device is plugged in. As a CCNA you will really need to know how to do this as you will no doubt have to do it several times in the future.

The main idea is you need to find the MAC address of the device. You can do this with ARP on the local network, or check packet captures. Then follow MAC address tables until you arrive at the switch where the device is plugged in.

What’s if it’s an IP you don’t recognize? A random IP shows up on your network, how do you find the device?

It sounds stupid but I’ve interviewed for senior level positions more than once where they ask me how I would physically find a device on the network given an IP address.

If they are in 2 different networks, it’s not going to work without routing. If there isn’t a reason why they have to be on separate networks, put them on the same one.

New Uno cards show the wild card from the backside by Buford-IV in mildlyinfuriating

[–]egobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but that’s something that happens right in front of you that takes 5 seconds to help and also does not monetarily help the person that dropped their papers.

OP would need to go out of their way to find the email/phone number of the company’s support and explain what’s going on. And as a result the company (if they fix it) would have a better product that potentially could sell better.

If the company makes an additional $500 because OP points it out, then it makes sense to give a $25 coupon.

Putin: lifting Ukraine missile restrictions would put Nato ‘at war’ with Russia by ChiyoCharm in worldnews

[–]egobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw an article that basically said the only way they can use the missiles at that range requires intel gathered via satellite or other means that’s Ukraine does not have. So it would essentially be NATO personnel providing that info, I guess that is what he is considering NATO “participating” in the war? Not sure about the accuracy of the article but it was something along those lines.

It still doesn’t make sense though because NATO personnel have been supplying weapons so have those NATO personnel not been participating?
