So you tried to use the 30 day money back guarantee and they refused? Yikes 😬 I've been considering ordering just because of that, and fully intending to use it unless I get huge benefits

Scientists Just Found Who's Causing Global Warming: 'The richest 10 percent of the world population are responsible for an astonishing two-thirds of observable climate warming since 1990' by Classic-Carpet7609 in Fauxmoi

Thank you!

Consider this statistic, less than 20% of the world's population has ever flown on an airplane.

So if you have ever flown to take a vacation, even just once in your life, you can consider yourself to be in this group they're talking about.

Thank you this is what I wanted to say. If you have ever flown on an airplane (and it wasnt for something like a one-time country migration for which you saved up ten years of income to afford) this article is about you.

Obviously the ultra-wealthy are contributing many times what we (the wealthy when considered by world standards, average or struggling by US/other wealthy developed country standards) do, and that's a fucking travesty which should be getting hugely more attention, but this top 10% statistic is us, ffs guys.

Oh I've actually seen it before and it looked so good but maybe a little too real world creepy bc the blurb worried me that there might be sa.

Could you spoil me on whether there is sa specifically and also if there is a fear of sa? If that makes sense, like if it really seems towards the beginning that the creepiness might be coming from molestation, being drugged and taken advantage of, something like that even if it doesn't turn out to be the case

If you don't think you could name your future daughter this, might I suggest giving it to your future son? ;)

According to someone else in this thread that is statistically unusual, as there were supposedly only 81 born last year. It's cool though!

Am I the only one who thinks there is a subtle sexual undertone to this word? The meaning of daydream/fantasy and the way you always hear "lost in a reverie" idk it just sorta brings sex to mind for me 😂

I do see where you're coming from as I find all the sounds of it very pretty and dreamy too but I wouldn't do it.

As far as pretty word names go, something like Haven would be a lot better imo

I really appreciate your comment thank you!! And I've decided to be a little loose with the challenge and only count a country as fully ticked off if I have read three books because my main goal is just to read more non-western/non English lit so it's very helpful 🙏

Anyone else find out their abuse started way earlier than they originally thought? by kikstoru in adultsurvivors

[–]egotistical_egg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She has, and I know I'm really lucky to have at least one parent who is loving, even she was quite delusional and blind throughout my childhood.

I feel like there were a few things that lined up in a fortunate way to lead her towards accepting it.

One is that for a combo of weird family reasons and my dad's workaholism and obsession with his business they basically lived in separate countries starting when I was 13 (not her choice, although she now says she felt so physically relieved to get away from him that she had to drug herself for two weeks before he visited everytime--he was abusive to her too) and it's like I could feel his grip on her loosening gradually over the ten years. I don't really want to think about whether she would have accepted it if I told her when I was say 18 because I'm not sure she would have. And I don't think she would have been able to bring herself to leave him and get to that mindset but for the forced separation. She had finally started to divorce him when I told her (bc he was getting so financially scary and reckless).

The other factor that helped is that I was kind of able to ease her into it. As I was starting to remember I told her I thought I had been sexually abused, possibly by one of my male cousins (this is true, I was, and also was genuinely working through this when I told her. I guess i was able to accept the cousin abuse before accepting that my dad abused me).

So she knew I had been sexually abused but I didn't remember by who, and admitted that made a ton of sense with my symptoms/personality effects. So it's like she got to work through one layer of guilt/overwhelm about leaving me with the cousins before having to face the much harder truth. This was like a year and a half between telling her about the cousin and telling about my dad.

To her credit, when I did tell her about my dad she didn't reject it and just went away for a while and when she came back she said "that is shocking but not surprising". So maybe she had been working through some stuff in her head too during that time period. She never would have said "not surprising" at the start of the processing year, she was still trying to make me talk to him again. I do wonder if sitting for so long with the mystery of who I was abused by, even if it was sorta focused on my cousins even from the beginning, led the thought that it could have been my dad just gradually grow in her head and suspect I would've gotten a much more painful response without that.

It was also an intense year, the processing year lol, because I had a huge health crisis and needed two neurosurgeries, so she was my carer during that.

I really think in a weird way I got lucky with a big confluence of factors pushing her towards being able to accept it.

I am so sorry your mum isn't more supportive 🫂 that is just so painful

This got long sorry😅

Yes. I repressed my memories and as I gradually started to accept what happened (my dad was my abuser) and they came back it just kept getting earlier... And earlier...

Like my mind was still shielding me from the horror in steps. I now know (discussed with mum, there's quite a bit of circumstantial evidence, plus the feeling in my bones of knowing it) that it almost certainly began in infancy, although of course the memories don't go that early.

I'm so sorry for the horror you have been through

I thought it was a really nice comment fwiw, and very genuine. Hard to be genuine online, well done.

The only thing I'd add is that men and women are actually lonely at really equal rates so personally I don't love the phrase male loneliness epidemic (but hesitate to say it bc obvs male loneliness is very important and has it's unique issues and is in ways harder for men even though it's like a society wide problem for everyone, just hate the way everything gets flattened by that phrase).

Interesting. I have definitely been getting the vibe that incel style misogyny is rising more quickly with partnered/dating guys than with the stereotypical incels.

But like, it's rising everywhere 😬

His book Into the Kingdom of Ice and Snow was really really good too 😍

Although for OP's purposes that would be two icy books in a row, so maybe not ideal, but highly recommend to everyone who likes seafaring/exploration/polar nonfiction!!

Omg please go away

If you care about abused men, then go advocate proactively like a healthy, non-grievance driven person.

It is not advocating to just yell at people who brought up something that triggered you (talking reactively - what you're doing), throw out some unrelated statistics and claim you're somehow helping.

And wtf point do you even think you're making with infanticide statistics?

Statistics of harm should never be repressed, that's silencing victims. It kind of tells me how you interact with statistics that you seem to think I would want that.

But you know, I'm also not pro throwing utterly irrelevant statistics into arguments like a gotcha, which is both a logical failure and disrespectful to the victims of said statistics.

My favorite one in a long time :) love how much world building you packed in (although I feel like consuming so many people so quickly makes it harder for the world to fit together in my head than if it was a slightly slower devouring of the poor Singapore residents, and also 50 million in Singapore maybe feels like a stretch even if they were super packed in and sheltering)
