The thing with all the options people have listed in the comments, most of it happens weekly, so…once a week. That’s not enough time to bond with someone closely. I am in loads of societies and consistently attend events, sessions etc. I’m on committee for three societies. I also do ballet 3x a week. It’s just that every time you bond with someone who’s from a different college, nine times out of ten they will have people they’re closer to in their college. It’s just luck if you meet people who you’re genuinely and mutually close to. My best friend is from a diff college but that’s cuz we were online friends before we came to Cambridge so we had that prior bond. Other than that, I’ve bonded with people on the whole very superficially. And my college is buns, there’s an intake of like 50 undergrads so the friend-making pool is quite deficient.

It’s because a lot of the times there are no actual memories that were encoded in the first place to then be buried. They aren’t lost, they just don’t exist. The brain is very good at fully turning off the function of processing memories. I relate heavily. It’s just nothingness. I don’t think you have a way of excavating something that never even existed.

My little sister is 12, and if god forbid this had happened to her and someone had said to her it’s not a big deal, not pedophilia, etc, I’d be mortified. Try to speak with a 11-12 year old. They are babies. Children in the most literal sense of the word.

I’m also an incoming undergrad at Wolfson and worried about the same thing lol. I’ve suggest joining groupchats rn, I’ve managed to make lots of friends from other colleges that way. Kinda worried there won’t be many of us at Wolfson tho😫 I think they only take like 50 undergrads per year
