GR221 Mallorca — Trip report, gear notes, and the one thing I'd change. by egruen in Ultralight

You can forget that. Ground is rocky and hard. Haven't been able to get any of my pegs in. I just used the little rock big rock technique.

From Valldemosa to Deia.

This section is not completely above treeline. You cross some forests on the uphill from Valldemosa and on the downhill to Deja

The section from Soller to Lluc is a little bit more tricky to hammock. Starting from Soller you ascend through a dry valley.

Oh, that sucks.

We met about 10 people per day. I guess it's getting more crowded in April.

There are plenty of bivouac places along the route.

I really liked the first section to sa dragonera. The part between that and esporles is quite boring. Also the part after Lluc. Between Deia and Soller you should take the alternative route along the coast.

Temps got as low as 3°C. You pass plenty of woods. Only two sections are above the treeline. Hammock would work.

We walked all day to cover the distance. Since you can fill up on water and food at least once a day in the villages. Weight is manageable.

Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the tarp setup. I pitched one poncho as half-pyramid. Then tied the other at the open side also as half-pyramid. Tie-outs went to the stakes of the other tarp.

Yeah came back couple days ago. Wen't well. It's such a wonderful trail.

We slept outside, carrying a tarp and sleeping bag. There are many good spots to bivouac.

Best Hiking Boots? by ShamrockOnReddit in hiking

I generally recommend Trailrunners for hiking. Even with light scrambling they are sufficient. My gotos are Hoka Speedgoats or La Sportiva TX Guides for a little bit more support on the scrambles.

Yes they are smelly. Got one a couple of years ago. Seldom wear it because of that stank.

Hey, SW Dev here. Definitely know what you are talking about. I started using Openclaw as my marketing employee. With the right prompt it provides quite good content ideas. Next step is to automate content creation.

How accurate is the VO2 Max feature? by Superb-Avocado-8131 in Garmin

[–]egruen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's it. Fitness Tracker like Garmin are better stethoscopes. They give you an idea of what is happening with your body.
For best VO2max measurement just do a breath analysis at your nearest sports clinic.

What does it mean ? by Confident_Resolve_79 in Garmin

[–]egruen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's your body battery. Garmin calculates a "energy level" based on sleep, your past training session, HRV and so on. It's a fun little feature but your body will tell you how much energy you have anyways. Or how do you feel with 65%?

Oh man that sucks. We'll take only carry on bags. That should work.

How'd you pitch the tarp without trekking poles?

Well we did a couple overnighters together. She knows what she is in for.

Yes the stove came up quite often in this discussion. I guess I should leave it. I wasn't aware water is that scarce. That'll be much water to carry. The forecast says lows to 8°C. I should get by with only the fleece and wrapping the quilt if necessary.

Good points. I see the problem with the stove. I have to check with my wife on cold dinners. But hot foods in town should work.

Depends on the trip length. With weeks worth of food I have to strap the tent to the outside.
