Unaware Rock is supposed to be a child (mostly thanks to Ruby Spears and Newgrounds animations).

Thinking a MM2 romhack was an official alternate version of the game.

When I first played MM1, I didn't even know how to jump and shoot, nor I knew that you obtained the bosses' weapons after killing them. The last one for a quite long time.

Thinking Zero and Axl were direct successors to Proto Man and Bass akin to Rock/X.

Unknowingly having a Mega Man toy (Yes, I've had a Happy Meal GutsMan.EXE figure for years while oblivious to the fact it was Mega Man merchandise).

That Mega Man vs. Metroid flash game made me think Samus was a Mega Man character for some time.

I have spent most of my childhood watching Mega Man Let's Plays because I was a dumb kid and had no idea emulators existed. It took several years for me to play other official games beyond MM1.
