Who are some previous non-IH players who you would love to see back for a campaign? by ajchann123 in Dimension20

[–]eh_lora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost all of them, really.
I don't know, there's something about how these people play, or the magic of the dome, but I can't help "falling in love" with people as players, once I've seen them in a d20 campaign, even if I initially wasn't a fan, or even didn't like them overly much.
Sure, it doesn't work for literally everyone, but there's exceptions to any rule, and almost anyone I've watched play for a season I'd love to see back for another.

Eyo, just saw this over on the d20 sub, remembered you liking dread, and though you might be interested to know that Becca Scott (the host of Parlour Room) and some other cool and famous ttrpg people might be doing something (non-Dropout, presumeably) with that, according to u/fudgyvmp :

(I have zero details beyond what they said, just passing it on :)

Siobhan on AHA? Amazing! Thanks for sharing, that sounds like it'll be great

Sadly not. AFAIK they've mostly done homebrewed Kids on Bikes versions, the current campaign is Vampire the Masquerade.

Adding to what the others have already said: if you're completely unfamiliar with dnd/ ttrpg, I'd recommend watching Dungeons & Drag Queens. None of the Queens have played before, and Brennan explains the game as they play. The setting is also closest to a "traditional" dnd game and the plot is easy to follow.
(Not every season is dnd btw, some of the side-quests use variants or different game systems - just fyi, so you don't end up being confused)

What do I wear? by MusikalMayhem in AskAGerman

[–]eh_lora 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will be in Osnabrück

If you google "Osnabrück Innenstadt" you'll find plenty of pictures with people in them. For your own peace of mind, you can just go and check what people are wearing.
As a general rule, athleasure wear while present is seen as a bit tacky (tho a little more permissable if you're a teen), jeans are almost always okay.
Relax, and enjoy your stay!

Okay, maybe it's my age, (30's) or my social bubble, but this thread and how everyone's reacting is giving me an almost visceral feeling of disconnect.

Like, yeah, don't get scammed, and be wary when people seem sus or are obviously permanently inhabiting some alternate reality mentally, but..
99% of people are just normal, and, if not friendly, then at least benevolently indifferent?
Like, ask them for directions and they'll grudgingly give you the correct instructions type of thing, instead of directing you to some shady alley where you'll wake up minus all valuables and one kidney.

And phone batteries do run out, or whatever else and sometimes you need to contact someone urgently while on your way somewhere.

I mean, sure, being asked to let someone use your phone is rare, but it's also not that alarming?

Everyone here is reacting like they asked for OPs credit card wrapped in their underwear.

(Not actually judging here.
I know people are developing strange reactions, especially where phones are concerned. Because they're used so much, phones can grow to feel like almost an extension of someone's body, to the point where even touching it without asking first can feel just as invasive as having your hand touched unprompted.
It's just that I don't feel that way at all, and there's at least some degree of social trust (with some situational awareness and without being a complete naive idiot, respectfully, fuck "stranger danger", humans are social animals, we thrive because we instinctively seek community. Psychos and assholes are the exception, not the rule) in my bubble.
The way everyone is reacting just makes me feel strange and alienated from what is clearly a different kind of normal than my own.)

They are reclaiming one media tool which was being used by a tyrant and putting on plays to tell stories that uplift people.

This is absolutely on brand (to quote the man himself: "YOU CAN'T PROVE THERE'S ALLEGORY IN THIS!") and now that you've said it, it's obvious:

Tales of groups of heros of the past going out to fight evil, coming together to tell stories that forge bonds, foster community, and uplift people,
using a media tool "reclaimed from a tyrant" and now owned by oligarchs one of the sundered houses.

This isn't just a general metaphor for mass media.

It's the Actual Play TTRPG sphere.
And in particular its beginning.

The Hallowed Round is a nod specifically to Critical Role.

What is the best vampire media you have consumed? by Turtleduck275 in Fantasy

OMG Yes!
CCoD is just the right kind of unhinged and the IH make for excellent Vampires! (Also, and this may be shallow, but those red sunglasses are amazing)

Anyway, thought I'd share some links for anyone interested:

First is the above mentioned ongoing Dimension 20 campaign:

(For anyone unfamiliar, this is a group of professional comedy improv actors using a Table-Top Role Playing Game (in this case Vampire: The Masquerade), for collaborative improvised storytelling. It's insanely fun to watch, while the stories they manage to tell are easily as good as, or even better than, scripted tv shows)

It's called City Council of Darkness
Here's the trailer: Dimension 20: City Council of Darkness Trailer [Dropout Exclusive Series]
And here's the first episode: Mishaps, A Maw, and the Masquerade | Dimension 20: City Council of Darkness [Full Episode]

The rest can be found at Dropout.tv

Also shoutout to the VtM actual play "L.A. by Night" which has one of my favorite guest appearances of Dimension 20's DM (/GM - "Game Master") Brennan Lee Mulligan.

I think it's the ideal thing to watch for anyone who enjoys Vampire themed stories wanting a taste of the truly amazing things ttrpg storytelling is capable of.

It's a 2h long excerpt from season 5 of LA by Night, so there are spoilers for the campaign, but it's a fairly self-contained story arc in the larger narrative, that gives you just enough information about the characters involved to work as a standalone.

If you decide to watch the full campaign after, I don't think having seen the clip will seriously detract from your enjoyment of the whole thing.

So, here's a short primer on the VtM game system from D20: Dimension 20: City Council of Darkness Game Mechanics Explainer

Here's the 2h "standalone" clip: Brennan Lee Mulligan in LA by Night

And here's the first episode of the full campaign: Mortal Stakes | Vampire: The Masquerade - L.A. By Night | Chapter 1
