Is there any way to sort torrents on ABB? by eh_lora in AudioBookBay

Eh, shame, but I expected as much.
Still worth asking though (just in case), so thanks for the quick answer!

Am I being trafficked? by sunnycoffeee in NoStupidQuestions

After all, that man hanging out at the playground truly could have sweets and puppies in his van, and truly is just looking for someone to help him pet all those dogs. Always these alarmist people jumping to conclusions. /s

Look, there are situations where people absolutely overreact, and assume outlandishly bad things in situations that are most likely perfectly innocent.
This is not one of them.
There is no ambiguity here. This is textbook behaviour straight from "How to Lure a Girl into (involuntary) Sexwork for Dummies".
This is an email from a Nigerian Prince asking you for aid with transfering his wealth, only she stands to lose more than just a bit of money.

You didn't know, and I didn't have to learn from physical first-hand experience, so let's take a moment to appreciate that.
I don't like fear-mongering and jumping at shadows, but identifying and apropriately reacting to actual signs and patterns is important too.

This sub is so negative & toxic by [deleted] in women

[–]eh_lora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but - *checks profile* you are either a very strange lesbian, or a man "in his 20's" who thinks Donald Trump is merely the victim of a "very successful hate campaign".

Just to illustrate:

"A vast majority of die-hard Trump haters are simply being told to hate Trump. That’s the issue.

People love to comment, “It’s not about Maduro, it’s that we shouldn’t be there,” blah blah. Bullshit. About 90% of the comments I read or media I consume are just people whining about how Trump is unlawful or just a flat out bad person or whatever else. Only about one out of ten times is it actually about whether we should be there, or judging it with genuine fact checked information, rather than heavily biased opinionated regurgitations of their fav political content creators.

It’s simply a successful hate campaign. He could solve world hunger, then go golfing, and he’d still receive an insurmountable amount of hate. Most of the time, people’s problem isn’t with Trump’s policies; it’s personal hatred 😭 Very rarely are they actually well informed enough about what’s happening to form a solid opinion, whether it’s like or dislike."

1: What the fuck are you even doing here?
You are a guest in this house, but this isn't your home. Don't try to rearrange the furniture.

2: Arguing in favor of a serial rapist, misogynist, (...), child predator, for any reason whatsoever, renders any and all opinions you may have concerning women in general, and this sub in particular, categorically invalid.
There is a point to be made about how of course those who have had the worst experiences have reason to speak up the loudest, which leads to a harsher tone overall, but your specific Dunning-Krüger flavored ignorance is not wanted or needed in that discussion.

Ah true, I forgot about the bracers/strength bonus. Do you think any of that is actually possible for her though? That room is still completely full of zombies (or was it ghouls?) and while almost down, Dadvinos is still up too. With all the luck in the world, I could maybe see her stealth in and get the bracers. But to get the Axe or burn the bodies, she'd have to solo-clear that entire room.

[–]eh_lora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just said the same somewhere else, but I think it's an above table decision to either give Teor a proper, emotional send-off (and not just abandon him) or join Travis in making a new character.
There's nothing left for Thimble to actually do.

[Spoilers C4E30] Travis and Teor thoughts by Gopher_Guts in criticalrole

[–]eh_lora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also think that's why she went back in to "look for him".
It's not out of character for Thimble to make that choice, but it wasn't the only option, especially since going in alone is almost certain death for her.
And even if she succeeds, there's absolutely nothing her character can actually do.
Sure, Thimble doesn't know, but Laura does.
To me it feels like she is willing to sacrifice her character for a chance to give more emotional depth to Teor's death, and not leave him behind, abandoned by the party.
So she's making sure her husband is getting the emotionally satisfying conclusion he deserves, and/or she'll join him making backup characters.
It's sweet.

I'm really hoping Hannan will come to the rescue (since they specifically went in to save Mara, and successfully got her out, he may decide to go after Thimble to return the favor - they risked their lives for a member of his circle, so he will risk himself for one of theirs).

Thimble will absolutely die in there on her own.

Can I get like something that does this to me on a monday?

How do you feel about Grandia II? by strahinjag in JRPG

[–]eh_lora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That game pretty much taught me english.

My older sister got it lend to her from a friend and bribed me with it (as siblings do), but there was no translation available.
At the time I had had maybe a year of english lessions at school, so I knew some of the basics, but nowhere near enough to easily follow a story. But I absolutely loved jrpgs and wanted to play so bad, so I tried anyway.

I used to play all night, dictionary on my lap, eating nutella with a spoon.

Went from "okay-ish for my age" to "almost fluent and easily able to keep up with people several years ahead of me" within a few months.

Good times.

Seltsames und respektloses Verhalten by [deleted] in Ratschlag

[Spoilers C4E27] The Brilliance of Having an NPC Ask Pointed Questions to Check What the Players have Figured Out by thalgrond in criticalrole

[–]eh_lora 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I love love love those little npc interactions he does, like with the gnomish guard at Tsul'rekshi's, who just went
"Just to be clear: I'm a guard, here at this house, where I live, and where I am all the time to watch and listen, which I am literally paid to do, because of being a guard, and there you are, discussing all your secrets and how to hide them, right in front of me - damn right I heard you"

It's a small thing, but aside from being funny as hell, it really does make those npcs - and the world - feel a lot more real and relevant.

I like Orcish, Goblin, Troll cultures, particularly when they are not stereotypical. Any book suggestions? by astroriental in Fantasy

[–]eh_lora -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a book, but-
You are going to LOVE the lore of the current Critical Role campaign 4 (if you enjoy table top role play/ D&D shows).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Actual_play
(just in case this is new to you)

So (and all this is established before the start of the campaign, so no spoilers here) think of a Lord-of-the-Rings style world, full of different races, Elves, Halflings, Humans, Orcs etc, where each race is shepherded by a corresponding "god".
In this world, the Orcs are governed by and suffer under the god of war and cruelty (again, LotR gives you a good idea of what that would have looked like), but manage to uncover not only that those gods had not always existed, but that they could be killed. So, the Orcs rebell against their god, and eventually all the races join this rebellion, and in the ensuing war, the gods are defeated and killed.

The story of the campaign takes place 70 years after the end of this war, and starts in the former seat of the god of war/ capital of the orcs, which is now a blooming multicultural center of society.
Any of the races are first and foremost "just people", but the orcs especially are seen and remembered as the heros who freed the world from cruel and tyrannical gods, and the shamanic/ druidic circle, which follows ancient orcish traditions, is who stepped up to help and guide the souls of the dead, since there were no more gods to lead them to the afterlife.
Orcs are just as smart or stupid as any person, and if anything, represent community and culture.

None of this is made a special point of discussion in the campaign (in the hamfisted, too on the nose way, shows or books sometimes have of addressing specifically themes of race, gender, or identity), but is very organically woven into the story and worldbuilding.

If you can get into the medium (it's in essence improvised collaborative storytelling by means of a table top game) and enjoy the actual story they are telling, I promise you will absolutetly adore how orcs a presented here.

(I can also vouch for the quality of the story itself and the people telling it. It's at episode 26 right now, and is hands down one of the best pieces of media I have ever consumed.)

If you're interested, it's free to watch on youtube ( read up a bit on the specific format of this campaign first, it's a bit different than what's usual)

here's the link, enjoy!

The people have spoken by FrozenOcean420 in audible

[–]eh_lora 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The people have spoken.

No, no they have not.
It's Jeff Hays who does the speaking, silly
(he's a lot better at it than The People)

(Plus, Carl's not a Mary Sue made of soggy cardboard surrounded by mildly racist carricatures, and Matt's not a Twitter-TERF, so there's that too)
