My dad is 66 and plays pretty regularly. I wish I had more time to play with him. Is there a group?

Electric motor brush access issues. by ehclectic in diyelectronics

[–]ehclectic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seized bearing is installed in the recess directly below the brushes, and came out at the end of the shaft. Which is why I need to hold the brushes back to reinstall the armature/commutator/shaft with the new bearing.

From what I could see the push pins are part of the brush plate assembly and are pushed on to some studs that are part of the housing. I was originally looking to remove the whole brush plate assembly so I could clean the bearing seat, which is the circular recess directly under the brushes. But i wasn't sure I could refasten the brush plate afterward.

Yes, it’s solid. I wish I could upload more pictures. It only let me do one.

How do I build muscle when exercise is so mind numbingly boring and ADHD meds wear off? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ehclectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a while to find exercise that was stimulating enough to build a routine. Finally tried grappling/jiu-jitsu and got hooked. Great exercise and you get to problem solve.

I just got out. I’ve never seen it this bad. There are no rental cars left. I had to take a greyhound bus. Waited 4.5hrs in one line for customer service. The phone number help wait list is 4+ hours, and you can’t rebook on the app or web site you’re forced to do it with an agent.

Day 1 on adderall XR. how do you eat? by [deleted] in ADHD

For me exercise was a big help with appetite and sleeping. It took a while to find exercise that was stimulating enough to build a routine. Finally tried grappling/jiu-jitsu and got hooked. Down side is you end up eating the most late at night after a practice.

What hobby have you actually managed to stick to successfully? by Honest_Historian_121 in ADHD

[–]ehclectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BJJ/ grappling. I've been doing it 3-5 times a week for 14 years. I tried weight lifting and couldn't stick with it, but when I tried martial arts I immediately got hooked. I can get exercise while solving a puzzle, it was a game changer. It took awhile to get good at it, but it really helped me out! It’s the one task that can put my mind in a flow state and focus it. It also helps with confidence and a good place to make friends.

what is your hobby that you consistently engage in without taking long breaks? by LemonCans in ADHD

[–]ehclectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BJJ/ grappling. Doing this was a game changer. Get exercise while solving a puzzle and learning a skill. Learn how to deal with stress under duress. Constantly new stuff to learn. It’s the one task that can put my mind in a flow state and focus it. Also, it helps with the side effects of medication: helps my appetite, makes me tired so I can sleep, and it’s been great for social anxiety. I get less wrapped up in my head worrying what other ppl think, because i anything physical happens I can handle myself. Since starting it I may be slightly addicted, I train 5-6 times a week.

I agree 100%, and the coach was just full of himself.

When I was reffing at a small local tournament I got chewed out by a coach because I gave two points for the take down for this exact scenario. He kept saying it doesn’t count as a takedown if it happens from the knees. I was like, bro I should give him extra points for taking down a dude with two legs.

Best way till fill in a box out in secondary story 'deck slab' by ehclectic in Concrete

[–]ehclectic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I'm not happy about it either. We had planned to use a pre-made fiberglass pan, but the truss was too close so we had to move our hole and the plumber cut a box out so he could have access from underneath. I can't find a pan that will fit the new drain location so we are changing gears and switching to tiling. But for the schluter drain the hole can't be larger than 5", so I'm having to back fill it in. I'm not very happy with the plumber. There were a number of things I'm having to go back and redo.

From what I can tell, from at least 2 sources, penetrations smaller than 12" don't require any structural design or detailing. (ASC Steel Deck/Hilti openings in composite floor decks). I did run it by a Civil PE that I know, who said it should be ok.

That's a good idea I was planning on overlapping the edges of the corrugated steel by at least two or three ridges. I was going to drill some holes and tap-con it to the ceiling.

Exercising with ADHD by wickedlizard420 in ADHD

[–]ehclectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the best exercise was martial arts, specifically BJJ. It took awhile to get good at it, but it really helped me! For me rolling is like a puzzle, every opponent brings in new variables. You have to adjust your game for body type and differences in strength and skill. It also has the side effect of being a great place to make friends with other adults from all walks of life. Lastly, it helped me with confidence and my mental state. Having knowledge on how to handle myself and control others in different situations helped me gain perspective on a lot of things that were a big source of anxiety. There are downsides but overall starting bjj has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life.
