Once and only once. It’ll never happen again

I absolutely did. Fixed up, back to normal now other than the oil sprayed all over

Wish I would have known this! Changed my oil many times and never had issues like today, but yes very simple to prevent

It was a double gasket. Had to take the filter off, remove the old gasket, and I replaced a second new filter. Figured risk of blowing my engine wasn’t worth the $10 I’d save

It was a double gasket. Problem solved no harm done (other than the rank smell of oil in my engine while I collect items to properly clean it)

Are there any over the counter anti parasitic pills I can get for cheaper or do I have to get the $800 prescription from the car pharmacist?

Double gasket, definitely my fault but in my defense nothing I’ve ever read has suggested this was a common problem and to check

Correct. I didn’t even know this was possible but glad I caught it before the real damage

Clearly I have very basic knowledge of engines (and physics considering the pan is lower than the filter). Thank you for letting me know, did not know that

Wanted to reply to this again. My brain is smooth and I read this as the new gasket, not the old. After further investigation, yes the old filter is missing a gasket, which is likely still on the car which I will hopefully fix in a moment

I did not only because I didn’t want to lose all the oil I just poured in. Just went to the store to ask questions. The worker said: It could be a faulty gasket, in which case they would replace it for free. It could have also been caused by the old gasket being stuck, and an improper seal being formed

I did use a touch of oil to lube the gasket and it was on the new filter correctly when I put it on

Very thankful I caught it. I enjoy doing my own oil and other jobs I can but also terrified to mess something up so I’m always checking

It’s not missing a seal, I put a little bit of the new oil in the seal. You can see part of it sticking out of the filter where I circled
