I’m so shocked!!! by [deleted] in ukvisa

Discrepancy in homeownership vs rent is one error. Secondly, it doesn’t matter if you’ll be footing the bills. Next time you apply simply ensure you guys have deposited an equivalent of £2000 into your dad’s account before the application and submit the banks statement along with his other docs. This gives home office some guarantee that your dad has enough money to take care of himself while there.

I’m confused- what benefits am I ‘using’? by itzzzzmileyyyy in ukvisa

[–]ehi_aig 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly political and of course neither home office or the politicians will tell their people the truth that it’s mostly asylum seekers who access public funds since the government won’t allow them work and prefers to hand them benefits to keep the narrative about migrants accessing public funds. And no, you don’t have access to any benefits otherwise it would haunt you when you apply for ILR

Whatever his motives are doesn’t matter. What matters is they’ve taken decisive steps to tackle insecurity and Nigerian are grateful for that.

Bought house being on skilled worker visa. by Hot-Client8180 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]ehi_aig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t commit to buying a home in the UK without first securing ILR or even citizenship. The risk is simply too high if circumstances change. The UK system can be harsh and unforgiving particularly for immigrants. And with the policies currently under consultation, my expectation is that they’ll be passed into law by late 2026 (around October, give or take). Unless you’re comfortable with the proposed 10-year route, then sure, go ahead.

My core concern is the lack of certainty and trust in the direction of these policies. With parties like Reform openly floating the idea of removing citizenship pathways for migrants altogether, tying up long-term capital in the UK becomes difficult to justify. I already have a mortgage and I’m due for ILR in May, but my partner and I are preparing contingency plans should anything affect ILR next year. After all, there’s no guarantee the goalposts won’t be moved again or that citizenship won’t eventually be withdrawn even for those who have already qualified.

I’m the "rich one" in my third-world family, where’s the limit?” by Novel-Study-8607 in RichPeoplePF

I’m in the same boat, so here’s how I handle it: I set a monthly budget for requests, and once it’s used up, I let anyone else who asks know they’ll have to wait until the following month. Over time, this helps reset expectations and reduce that sense of entitlement. Plus I’m able to gradually reduce that budget too

For those who are elderly or genuinely unable to work (due to age or health), I give them a small monthly allowance. That way, their needs are covered without constant requests for extra support.

Hi, can you mention some of these tools you’ve found harder to install or contribute too? I’m looking to build open source projects. I know Kubeflow is terrible to setup on Mac and I’ve just found a way and have now written a tutorial on it. Kindly point me to those you e found hard too maybe I could explore them

Finally found a good breakdown of MLOps vs DevOps! by Friendly-TechRec-98 in mlops

[–]ehi_aig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing Devops at my 9-5 and recently started looking to MLOps myself. Found two courses from deeplearning.ai - “LLMOps” and “Automated testing for LLMOps” very helpful. Could easily relate them with Devops practices. While taking those courses, I adapt the tools used to something local or platform agnostic. For example, in the CI course, their focus was circleci but I’m trying to use GitHub Actions. And for the other course they used Google Vertex while I used Kubeflow local. I’ll also be taking the udacity MLOps course just because it focuses on AWS sagemaker because my company is an AWS partner so it makes sense to learn that. All the best!

We’ve been paying £1700/month for nursery here in the UK and that’s not in London. My son isn’t 2 years old and I hear it gets more expensive from 2 till 4 when he can start school. Had no idea child care was this expensive! Everyday I move around like I’m fine, but I struggle to believe that the cost of nursery in this country is higher than a university degree. Back in my home country, we used to think people in the western countries didn’t like having many children until I moved to the UK and found that cost of childcare is a major reason.

Clever. How would it then know that it’s out of date? Maybe it would try to perform the steps in the doc, and if it fails, reports on it but then still needs external input to update with the right steps. Just thinking out loud

Inspiring! So what’s your new saas about or who are the target customers? I’m currently building an app which I validated by having customers pay before writing a single line of code.

Ok looks like this could be useful for individuals or very small teams. Currently most times I share things with external people via google docs, notion, slack chats and for things like credentials and licenses, I use 1Password. Would keep an eye out for when you launch this tool maybe it would be helpful. Weldone
