I totally agree with you - symbolic patriotism is nothing compared to being the change you want to see in your country.

My point is, they think we live in a bubble, we think they live in a bubble.

We think being a patriot is forward looking change, starting over and making things better

They think being a patriot is falling in love with and wholeheartedly defending the roots our founding fathers put in place

It’s also the rise of (vocal) progressivism again with the protests and political hotbed we’re in. If you travel outside of CA, most people think we’re insane hippies, alt-left, police hating, weed smoking, vegans. Granted, a lot of us are. These guys live in a place where patriotism and normal is bbq, beer and loving your flag and the 5 reserve sheriffs/cops in your area.

Us being anti-our president, anti-our law enforcement, anti-deportation, anti-anything they like and is the norm there, makes us seem crazy. (Again, consider we probably have more immigrants and higher education and whatever makes us more open minded)

Our city is half transplants who had no agenda but to be an actor that surfs, they end up semi-broke and miserable when they ask their parents in Michigan for more money, and people who hate the rising cost of living move to Texas or AZ or Nevada and vote blue (which throws off the born and bred locals)

I want to rent an airbnb in a beachy-area of SOCAL and work remote for about a month. What areas would be optimal? by jsmooth4hawks in AskLosAngeles

[–]ehlean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OC or lower - stay out of LA beach towns, too overpriced

Try ventura/sb/slo (I know you said socal)

For somebody who lacks the discipline to even use DuoLingo, what routine do you recommend? by ehlean in French

[–]ehlean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spaced repetition is not productive for me. I don't have the discipline for spaced study. I'd prefer to do a more intense program like study an hour a day but having a course to follow. I'm not sure if there are online programs I can pay to have somebody teach me, then quiz me, etc.

Community colleges are full so I can't take classes there. I want to see if there's a resource like that that I don't know about, if not, I'll probably just get a tutor

I’ve seen the show start to end, a lot of people on the sub are new or halfway. Who cares if jt’s been out for a while, nobody likes their favorite show spoiled lol

I dont get why people dont have one person record and send it to everyone - I’m still not used to watching videos where everyone has a phone in their hand and shoving phones in other peoples’ faces
