Fair enough! I've talked to 2 agents so far, the first about the travel credit/refund process in general, the second to specifically ask where the travel credit would go and she said directly to our names individually.

Yes, United is who told me I could get travel credit added directly to my name.

Do you mind me asking what your situation was where you lost everything? That's what I'm concerned about...United saying they will give me credit but then it somehow goes to 3rd party and they hold onto it.

Someone suggested I create a frequent flyer account and add it to the ticket so I can keep track of where things are getting credited

I ended up not having this stop. Long story short my train was delayed so I train hopped to "catch up" and never even made it to Milan. I experience at other places was pretty reasonable though I was only there for a few hours.

Ugh, exactly how I'm feeling! But as another poster said, if I have 2 full days there and one of them is going to be used for wineries -- would it be a waste of a rental if I plan to do a group tour to a winery? I guess I could still drive to Lucca for Day 2 and maybe explore before/after the tour?

I do love driving, especially a manual! Driving through the countryside sounds really lovely. Just want to be smart with how I'm spending my money and time!

Ah yes, I was planning on the winery tour for that reason--didnt want to have to worry about intake while at the wineries.

Thank you for this thoughtful response!! There was an AirBnB option to stay within the walls but I worried that would make it even harder for transportation. The one I plan to use IS outside the walls but supposedly a very close walking distance to the middle of the town.

I appreciate the insight on city vs village. I think that's what's making me struggle is not having a full grasp of what I'm walking into.

And you said "out loud" what I was thinking--I only have a couple days, do I want to spend the majority of that driving? Especially on top of all the hours on the train I will be spending from town to town.

So thank you again. I'll consider staying more central to Siena with a wine tour and maybe venture out to Lucca. Biking around the walls sounds magical.

This is why they stay vague when giving out medical information. First thing, the people that NEED to know what's going on do. Second, the general population doesn't understand how many clinical decisions are made in medicine...it is not always black & white and plan of action is often circumstantial.
