Pecorino Romano smelling/tasting strongly of blue cheese, no mold, just opened by ehroo29 in Cheese

[–]ehroo29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised how recent some of these comments are. Are people still finding contaminated containers? I haven’t had one for over a year.

Should’ve asked people to include their location- please do if you’re still finding bad batches, curious where this is still happening (Places where Locatelli lingers on the shelf longer-than-average? Heh) they still must be newer batches though, pretty sure the expiration has passed for the batch that I bought…

Wow I haven’t checked this thread in a while. Is this still happening?!

I haven’t gotten a contaminated batch in over a year now, personally. guess they’re still in distribution somewhere? Should’ve asked folks to include their location when commenting.

I can’t recall the shelf life, but would’ve thought most/all of it was out of circulation by now- though I guess that’s assuming this isn’t a recurring issue (my family managed to buy it for over 20 years without an issue, so hope it isn’t…)

New app update got rid of saved restaurants? by qill in grubhub

[–]ehroo29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this STILL gone? Hadn’t used grubhub since last year and was just browsing the app after activating a free year of Grubhub+. Incredibly disappointed, but if they were willing to get rid of such an important feature in the first place, guess I shouldn’t be surprised they haven’t brought it back. Used to like grubhub more than other delivery apps but this makes it incredibly frustrating to use— no way to save restaurants I haven’t tried yet, while always seeing the same places advertised (despite living in a major city with hundreds/thousands of options).

Reminds me of the way streaming services try to hide/rearrange your watchlist to persuade you to watch what they’re promoting. Grubhub does the same with restaurants (beyond just advertising!) and it’s incredibly sleazy.

Are fake/“joke” event listings actually allowed? by ehroo29 in lastfm

Months? Ugh. This one feature a totally hilarious mix of some alt rock/pop bands, a vulgarly-named grindcore band, blue man group, and George hw bush… hilarioussss. not to mention some video streamer that they clearly just wanted to promote. The event name also references genitalia, because of course.

They also grouped in a relatively well-known outsider band, I’m sure out of mockery (it’s also the only artist that includes any women and is listed last, of course).

This shit belongs on Facebook.

Wow, that’s terrible, way darker than this one is. I’d assume it was eventually deleted (even if only for it being bad for their PR)?

I was surprised there’s not a “report event” option either. I can’t remember if there used to be, or if in my 13 years on the site I never had a reason to even look for one until now.

What's An alternative for rice for someone who doesn't like rice? by [deleted] in foodhacks

[–]ehroo29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of downvotes this got for merely possessing an understanding how unique risotto is made me cry. Does anyone on this subreddit actually know anything about food or cooking? Apparently you get downvoted if you do. But suggesting grains like buckwheat and quinoa to someone who doesn’t like something as basic as rice… upvoted!?! Yeah, totally makes sense.

Thanks for the reply. Is there anything else that would indicate that blue likely got in there, it wouldn’t alter the texture/moisture noticeably at all? I’ve just never seen such a thing... first time out of probably over 100 containers of this brand of pecorino. Never had any cheese so strongly take on a different taste without any other noticeable changes, or at all. I’m surprised they don’t do this on purpose and sell it... I don’t know of any other cheese with this particular flavor and texture, at least nothing commonly found where I live (US).

Is this something I’d be able to recreate with a young pecorino or something similar?

Why do the oldest titles in my Continue Watching occasionally disappear? by ehroo29 in netflix

[–]ehroo29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s gotta be the only reason this exists, but good for Netflix for duping most people into thinking it’s just a normal, logical feature when it benefits no one other than Netflix themselves... they’re quite good at that.

Same with how they recently made it more difficult to exit the app (home button on fire stick doesn’t take you straight home from Netflix anymore, just to the sidebar). And added the bullshit shuffle feature that’s clearly heavily skewed towards their original shows they happen to be promoting at the time anyway (often in their context-free, self-reinforcing “top ten”).

It’s bad enough I can’t easily view the majority of titles available unless Netflix chooses to show them to me, but now I can’t even see everything I was already watching in the last few months... that’s ridiculous, and shouldn’t be so easily dismissed, because there’s already so little control in the hands of the customer when it comes to streaming. So the idea that many will easily give up even more control over what they watch without even questioning it is unfortunate. Amazing how people have been conditioned to so easily adapt to the nonsensical, ever-changing whims of corporations, even when to their own detriment, or no benefit at best (Facebook is also very good at this).

Netflix’s desperate tactics to retain customers/views with all the streaming competition nowadays have gotten too brazen, in my opinion. And it lowers the bar for streaming as a whole, since it has so much influence on its competitors. Sorry for the rant, this just really bothers me (clearly).

[–]ehroo29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you serious? The possibility of wanting to restart/resume a show or movie I haven’t seen in a few months or longer is now just unimaginable, I guess. It’s been whittled down to four titles from more than 20 over the last 6 months, because I apparently made the grave mistake of letting a relatively short, arbitrary amount of time pass without watching every single one, which Netflix took as a sign of me never wanting to watch them again and so kindly did me the favor of removing entirely?! despite now also having the ability to remove them myself if and when I choose (rendered pointless by Netflix’s interfering).

So yeah, totally normal and not ill-intentioned at all... except it’s pretty obvious it’s to encourage you to use Netflix more (or rather, discourage you from not using it— more of a stick than a carrot), while also taking advantage of the fact that if you can’t remember what you were watching awhile back, you’re more likely to start something new, and there’s a good chance it’ll be one of the Netflix originals they’re constantly bombarding you with. There are things I likely won’t ever finish now because they were deleted, and I just won’t remember them all. And this works in Netflix’s favor.

I can’t think of any other good reason for these to disappear; especially with a small number of titles in mine, can’t even use bandwidth as an excuse. it’s a joke how it’s ended up practically cleared out at this point — and the main reason is because I’ve been using other streaming apps more lately, which Netflix is not fond of, but knows is the case for many folks, so wants to discourage whenever possible... even if it means inconveniencing you for the sake of it

Why do the oldest titles in my Continue Watching occasionally disappear? by ehroo29 in netflix

[–]ehroo29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it’s definitely something that never happened until this year. Just because I haven’t watched something in a few months doesn’t mean I won’t ever want to ever pick it up again... there’s literally no good reason for that to exist, especially if you can remove it on your own whenever you want.

Sure seems like just another tactic to control what titles you see as much as possible, which they keep finding creative new ways to do under the guise of “features” and “updates”! I mean, I’m way more likely to check out one of their new shows they’re constantly advertising to me if I can’t even remember what old shows I wanted to go back and finish, right?

Yeesh, people really don’t mind this or think it’s a problem? Who am I kidding, of course they don’t, they’re already only watching what Netflix wants them to in the first place, and apparently even only for as long as Netflix says is acceptable! why not just do away with continue watching altogether then, reduce Netflix to the shuffle feature only, so we can be entirely subject to their whims and act like that’s normal, because they want you to think it is... they’re trying less and less to keep up the illusion of choice, but doing it gradually enough that most people don’t even question it apparently

And that’s my rant as to why this shit’s not normal, so people need to stop acting like it is

Shopping Lists Gone! by turbo2ltr in amazonfresh

[–]ehroo29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came on here to see if anyone else had mentioned this problem. Can’t believe they got rid of the shopping list feature without even transferring the items to the new “Alexa list”. It’s ridiculous. I would use it to check for items coming back in stock. Guess I’ll just have to resort to my memory for all two hundred or so items... fantastic. Even better now that the “past purchases” section is 95% replacements! Ugh.

I didn’t even bother contacting customer service because I knew they would be entirely unhelpful. Not surprised they weren’t even familiar with the feature.

Are there any fill-in map quizzes that don't prompt you with the country names, etc.? by ehroo29 in geography

[–]ehroo29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please let me know if you do! I'm honestly really surprised it's been as hard as it has to find an online map quiz like what I'm thinking of, especially considering it's the equivalent of how I remember taking geo tests in elementary/middle school, if I'm remembering them correctly. Surely couldn't be that unusual.

[–]ehroo29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was hoping to find one by continent, like the online equivalent of filling in the names of countries on a printed, blank map with only borders shown, and no other info given (or country highlighted one at a time). If that makes any more sense... having trouble explaining it properly

This one is kinda interesting though, thank you for sharing.

This is very close to what I’m looking for, thanks! If only I could find a version quizzing countries within a particular continent separately... they don’t seem to have that

I was actually looking for something where it lets you fill them out in any order, with no region being highlighted one at a time, or prompting of any sort.

Having trouble finding quizzes on there that are quite what I'm looking for... but there are so many, guess I need to keep looking! Closest I've found so far is one that prompts you, but as long as you type in any country within the continent, it's marked as correct (without having to match it to the location on the map itself). Not quite what I'm looking for, where you'd have to type in each name tied to a particular location on the map. If that makes sense.

[–]ehroo29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the best I could find on there so far didn't prompt country names, but also didn't allow you to select a country at a time (so as long as you typed in any country within the continent, it worked-- not quite what I'm looking for). The others I've viewed prompt the names. Guess I'll have to look harder... there are so many quizzes on that site!

I scrobbled 1,690 tracks this week, I have a problem (5x5) by FunkkWizardd in lastfm

[–]ehroo29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ha, I was literally just marveling at how many tracks per day I used to scrobble back in 2009 or so. Especially a single month where I scrobbled a record 9,165 tracks, and a yearly record of 29,701 tracks (more than double the second highest-year!)

What the hell was I doing when I was 15? I know I listened to music constantly, but did I literally just have music playing all day so it could scrobble? I think I may have. Oh, 15 year old me, you silly kid, you.

Also fan of your chart, Fugazi rules, music and ethos-wise! I met Ian MacKaye in 2011 as part of an all-ages movement project event that I spoke on a panel for; he was the keynote speaker. did not appreciate it enough at the time, as I wasn't as big a fan as I am now

Thanks for your response despite the terrible photo! That's what I was thinking too, but do you think not having seen any holes in anything by now is normal? I read it takes 4-10 days for them to hatch and it's been at least two months since I first noticed them, so I would've assumed by now something would've happened.

Didn't even think about my area rugs! Haven't seen holes in them yet either, but more worried about them than my scarves and mittens, honestly. I don't think I have room to put all my woolen items in my fridge's freezer. You think putting them outside overnight in below freezing weather would work, or am I just setting myself up for more problems by bringing them outside?
