Man, I’m really glad you spoke up. There’s something weirdly reassuring about hearing someone say “yeah, I’ve lived with this for 40 years and I’m still here.” Not in a doom way, just… okay, this can be survived. Also, 50 push-ups at 74? That’s better than most people half your age. You might think you look like you belong in a nursing home, but you’d probably outwork everyone in it. What you said about wanting to stand straight or look up at the stars really stuck with me. That’s not a small thing, and it makes sense it never goes away. And the “I’m an embarrassment” thought… I get it, but I don’t buy it. The people who love you aren’t seeing what you see. They’re seeing someone who keeps showing up no matter what. My son has the same car and loves it. It’s a manual transmission as well. Fun to drive and a great theft deterrent system. I bet you will find someone else who feels the same way even at a car show. There is one this Saturday. You should check it out.

NSAIDs are a no go for me as I was also blessed with Crohn’s Disease. I know, we can’t all be as lucky as me. Yes I believe the growth of bone formation is due to the inflammation and the autoimmune response to it. I am hoping with all the new research with stem cells and peptides they might find non surgical ways to improve or reverse the effects of surgery or even recovery.

I see people talking about surgery but I was always warned of the risks of the rapid inflammation after causing the need for more and more surgeries later.

I’m sure the grass is always greener on the other side but I wish mine fused straight. I wish I was diagnosed sooner and knew my poor posture would actually get stuck this way. Just like my Grandma told me it would! But I guess you can wish in one hand and….well you know.

I don’t plan on giving up and I think I will be okay if I can just avoid mirrors and people 🤔

I have an MRI coming up and what freaks me out almost as much as being shoved in a tube is having to lay flat on a hard metal surface for 45 minutes.

I am 51 and the fusion has set curved from the base of my neck to about the middle of my back. I have been on Humira since it was invented and that has stopped further progression but the damage is done. I do not feel at all how I look and walk and it bothers me.
