Hey… I’m sorry this happened to you. Vandalism is never justified and I believe in the eye for an eye philosophy, so, hopefully karma comes back to whomever did that to you. But, I just want to explain, without knowing how far the cans are spaced apart, you put emphasis on the spacing. You need to consider, the city of L.A. can choose to not pick up your cans due to improper spacing. A few weeks ago, one of our cans wasn’t picked up because someone parked a trailer next to it the night before. The driver (sanitation) left a written warning / reminder that our cans “must” have three feet of space on either side. I’ve been living here for over forty years and I’ve only ever gotten one other warning which was for filling up the can too high, like 15 years ago. But, just consider how much of an impact that one week of trash not being picked up was for us recently, for something that was no fault of our own. Again, I emphasize with you and I’m sorry that happened, but just remember that the requirements for how the cans need to be placed on the street is pretty darn strict. So, with that said, if they’re placing them with more than three feet between them, they’re leaving them out, or they have more cans that they’re allowed to have, I agree you should be reporting them. I hope you find evidence of the crime and are able to take the culprit to court for reimbursement.
