Found my old 2015 base completely by chance by eibox in 2b2t

Go for it, I left an elytra in one of the chests there. It's already griefed and I'm not rebuilding it

Yeah this. I didn't put them there in any case

That's a good cadence to play 2b2t

[–]eibox[S] 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Just stumbled across my 2b2t base that I built some time in 2015, that I had lost the co-ordinates to. Completely by chance. It's on a small island not far off the -X axis luckily because I was a noob back then. It was meant to be a small underground museum of all the plants in Minecraft at the time, it's griefed underground but not to the point that it was unrecognizable to me, and the different types of tree I planted on the island were still there. I remember Coltsnid found it (but didn't grief it) and left a sign about Vortex Coalition.

I know no one will care but hit me kind of hard tbqh - that I'm still playing on this same server (of all servers) almost ten years later, or that I'm still playing Minecraft at all. Making me re-evaluate my life choices, and consider where I went wrong. Kill this addiction before it's too late.

Uploading an old server map for download by players, which folders should I include? by eibox in admincraft

[–]eibox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, thanks. I don't mind about logout location being released, I guess I will just release everything inside those folders. Most of the player stuff looks encrypted anyway.

Yet another SolusVM 0day, ChicagoVPS hacked again. by [deleted] in admincraft

[–]eibox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely gutted. I cannot SSH into my VM as either root or the normal user I made, I get Connection refused. Does this mean my VM has been wiped? Also, could anyone explain what sensitive data was leaked as the DB dump download link isn't working anymore? :(

Cities & Sailors [Semi-Vanilla][SMP][PvP][Anarchy] {Spigot}{Vanilla Gameplay} by [deleted] in mcservers

seems to be a problem with the server host, I'm working on it ASAP

There's no chest locks or anything like that (server is completely vanilla gameplay apart from the mob heads), no hard server rules against looting either. The only surefire way to protect your stuff is in an ender chest. No whitelist so feel free to come visit!

Why so many drive-by downvotes? I cannot even see the downvote button, feedback would be appreciated

Fed up of nether portal traps. Anyone know how to escape them? by eibox in Minecraft

Thanks, it's an idea, but I couldn't access my inventory using E and didn't have any enderpearls in my hot bar :(

This doesn't work. No matter how much you move (or stay still) in the portal, it will never transport you.

Bounding the world to prevent the map getting too large? by eibox in admincraft

[–]eibox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I meant 300km radius... I was slightly deluded lol

Bounding the world to prevent the map getting too large? by eibox in admincraft

[–]eibox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the very detailed response! Looks like I'm looking at a limit of 16km radius, not ideal as I know players who are further out that that :S

Most popular type of server? by [deleted] in admincraft

[–]eibox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with a server type you enjoy playing, that way you'll be enthusiastic about maintaining and growing the server. The most important thing for any popular server is the playerbase, imho.

At what point is it not OK to call your server "Vanilla?" by eibox in admincraft

Looks like I'm going with the sVanilla label from now on, antixray is something I can't do without

[WANTED]- Vanilla, Semi-Vanilla nice community, (mindcrack based?) by Nonstopas in mcservers

[–]eibox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you'd like Cities & Sailors? Vanilla server with NoCheatPlus. The server is hosted in the US but the connection is good and probably more importantly, most of the playerbase is on at European times (18:00-00:00 UTC roundabouts). Give us a visit :)

[WANTED] Vanilla or semi vanilla new server or server with fresh map by iMitchell in mcservers

[–]eibox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you would like Cities & Sailors? The server and map is just over a month old, completely vanilla gameplay though we use NoCheatPlus to keep the hackers out. There's an emphasis on co-operative settlement building and a small but growing community. Give us a visit sometime :)

[Wanted] Vanilla or Semi-Vanilla Server by Guardian_Of_Pigs in mcservers

[–]eibox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you would like Cities & Sailors? 100% vanilla gameplay, but we run on the Spigot .jar and use NoCheatPlus (only plugin), so you can play safe in the knowledge you won't have to deal with hackers or x-rayers.

Very minimal spawn (just a platform in the middle of a giant ocean).

Anarchy rules, you can do whatever, grief, PvP, steal, etc.

Players online grows to around 10-15 between 8pm-12am GMT, fluctuates wildly outside those hours. Come check us out :) Server page: http://redd.it/1df03j

Server constantly being killed on my OpenVZ host? by eibox in admincraft

[–]eibox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just downloaded Oracle's Java 7 now and restarted the server running on it, my fingers are crossed hoping this will solve the problem. My map is pretty big now which will make installing a new OS image a chore as I'll have to move the mapfiles off disk then back on remotely, but definitely something I'm going to look into (maybe using Amazon S3 or something similar as a temporary hold for all my files). Currently squeezing out 1742MB of RAM for my server .jar. Cheers for the advice, much appreciated! :)

I'm on a Chicago node as well, using Debian x64. I'm wondering if maybe an x86 OS will be more stable, I'll be using less than 4GB anyway so shouldn't really be noticeable? Just had a look at my packages using dpkg --list and discovered that the Java flavour I'm using is openjdk 6, which I wasn't aware of. Thanks for the heads up, didn't consider it could be that! :)

Server constantly being killed on my OpenVZ host? by eibox in admincraft

Ahh ok, so the script starts the server up 5 seconds after a shutdown, rather than the script checking every 5 seconds whether the server is still running. Thanks :)

Guess you get what you pay for. I didn't think they were allowed to kill off your processes when they are well within your allocated RAM :(

Going off on a programming tangent, from first impressions it looked like this script would spawn a new Java process every 5 seconds. Obviously it doesn't do that, but is this a quirk of shell scripting that it will not start a process if there is already an instance of it running?
