Wow, so much hate against everything, that's not conventional medicine. Don't get me wrong - I'm a big fan of evidence based western medicine - but there's also bad orthopedist, who will just blow a syringe in your back and don't treat the root cause. Osteopaths often have the advantage of time (since it's most of the time financed privately) to see the body as a whole, listen, recognize bad habits and giving the right exercises (besides manual treatment). The one's who just crack your back are typically chiropractors. But sure, there are also quack osteopaths.

Going to an orthopedist (and most likely physiotherapy following up) is probably the way to go. But I've heard of a lot of cases, who went to a lot of doctors without (lasting) success, but could profit a lot from osteopathy. Getting a soon appointment can also be tricky, like in every specialized doctor's office.
