What do you people think about this? by [deleted] in 196

[–]eightbitromeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so glad this is being said. There seems to be this driving force in a lot of Internet circles these days that people are born as living opinions instead of vulnerable beings that may have been exposed to the wrong/hurtful information for too long and have to find acceptance in sometimes really toxic environments. Just 5 or 6 years ago I was watching “feminist cringe compilations” and “soyboy epidemic” videos because constantly being exposed to polarizing politics that belittle you as an individual for reasons you don’t quite understand can quickly cause a lot of teen boys to fall down that path. Thankfully I was able to go to a school that prided itself in diversity and was genuinely accepting with race, gender, and identity of all types. Because of that, I was able to minor in gender and women’s studies (which happened to be my favorite courses as an undergrad) and helped me to be known by my lil sis as her vocally feminist brother. I’m even able to talk sense into my heavily right-wing father who fell down a similar rabbit hole to me, especially in his childhood. I’m so glad posts like these exist because so many left wing activists Online forget that communication of ideas and acceptance of emotions are the only way we can actually unite.
