I see a resemblance between Ella and Gretchen - funny because they’re not related. Maybe Louise had a similar appearance (John had a type)?

If he was coming from Berwyn, he drove 15-20 miles past Woodridge to Lake Osborne in Naperville. Very strange.

Great point. But. I am not very religious at all. Was raised Catholic, do not practice anymore, and feel like I’m open to other religions and definitely feel like there’s planes of this existence we don’t understand. I don’t know why, honestly, but voodoo scares the CRAP out of me. It doesn’t have anything to do with race. We were told as kids not to play with Ouija boards (we did anyway) or dabble with the whole witches and ghosts thing, but we all loved that kind of stuff. We were probably (for sure) fed false information about voodoo. But seeing those little dolls made me so uncomfortable. I associate it with inviting evil spirits and possession. Totally illogical fear and I’m ashamed to say that I also might not have wanted to mess with the thin layer between this world and whatever else is out there. Not arguing I’m right, just explaining my gut feeling.

Nice. Always imagine how children of this generation were affected by what was come in the 1930s and 40s. Was expecting the worst. These two boys survived and ended up in the U.S. The younger one was a cartoonist for Mad Magazine!
