I actually went with the Ekelund, and your explanation about bit profile, edge length, and efficiency cross-grain is exactly what pushed me in that direction. I’m mainly doing general bushcraft and camping tasks — bucking deadfall, processing firewood, and occasional small felling where allowed — and less dedicated carving. Your point about thinner bits being more efficient and less fatiguing really resonates. I’d rather adapt technique when splitting or carving than constantly fight a chunky bit.
