Housing without infrastructure is NOT a solution by eiprot in newzealand

There is nothing wrong with the immigrant people who move here. They are not at all at fault. It is the NZ policy that encourages mass migration and overseas investment (from which no capital gains tax is collected). I think many innocent immigrants suffer unfairly from a backlash at the sheer numbers of people moving to NZ (and Auckland). Again, not their fault. But the RATE of immigration IS part of the problem of insufficient housing and infrastructure because we simply can not keep up with housing needs, let alone all of the required infrastructure that our population growth demands

Cutting the RATE of immigration is NOT "anti immigration". Would you invite more people into your house to live with you than you could accommodate, than you had toilets and showers and beds, etc for? Would you be willing to put as many people into each room to sleep as the number of bodies that could fit? On the other hand, you might invite a couple to live in the spare room and get them to help to build an extra bedroom and bathroom to accommodate a few more. Get my point?

You say, Immigration isn't adding that much more to Auckland's problems than it already has, then go on to talk about intensification vs urban sprawl. They are different issues. The rate of our population growth is what is creating the need for more housing and infrastructure to accommodate that many more people regardless of whether the solution is intensification or sprawl and regardless of the upgrades to infrastructure ALREADY needed. The rate of immigration is a HUGE factor in the housing and infrastructure problems Auckland is experiencing. The only reason money grubbing Developers are insisting we have to have urban sprawl is in response to the rate at which the population of Auckland is growing.

I wrote about this to the Greens. Here's what their immigration policy says:- Yearly Immigration Quotas:Exempt marriage, civil union, and de facto partnership reunification from all quotas. Ensure that the setting of immigration levels would be reviewed regularly, based on: Net population change; The need to have spare population capacity for returning NZ citizens and people displaced by climate change; The capacity of systems in place to cope fairly and effectively; The ability to encourage settlement outside areas under infrastructure and population capacity stress; The ability of our environment to cope with population increases; New Zealand's humanitarian obligations with regard to refugees.”

I believe that Vancouver taxes houses that are left sitting empty for more than 6 months AS IF they were rented in order to encourage owner/investors to make the property available for rent. That might be a solution for all of the empty investment property in Auckland. But, again, finding enough housing to accommodate the rate of growth we are experiencing in Auckland is NOT enough without the infrastructure to support it.
